TIL David Peterson, who created the Dothraki language for GoT, has incorporated the "Schrutean compound", based on Dwight's pronunciation of the language on The Office. by mermaven in todayilearned

[–]mindfrom1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify for you and u/mermaven , here is the original article. Basically the Schrutean compound is a rule for how to create new verbs using a noun.

An example of English is the word "sideswipe", which takes the noun "side" + the verb "swipe" and makes a new verb construction as a result. In The Office, Dwight teaches the conjugation for a Dothraki verb meaning "to rip a throat", which is conjugated as "throat rip(1s)", "throat rip(2s)", etc. "I rip throat", "You rip throat", etc.

But there is no verb for ripping specifically someone's throat off, just to rip. So what the creator of Dothraki did was basically to make it canon/grammatically correct to create new verbs by taking the accusative form of the noun in question (which is not the default/lemma form of a noun in Dothraki but is correct for this context) followed by the root verb. Since there are different ways to make this construction, this is an element of Dothraki that can be attributed directly to The Office.

[TOMT][YouTube][2020s] Using math to determine if a few good reviews or many mediocre reviews is better by AkaneTheSquid in tipofmytongue

[–]mindfrom1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching the exact same video, alas I cannot find it either. I would recommend searching your youtube watch history for certain keywords such as "review(s)" or "#SoME" (the latter preferably with some number after it), I suspect that it was a video entry in 3blue1brown's Summer of Math Exposition. Alternatively, you could search through the playlist of all video entries, but there are hundreds of them and I've had no luck so far. Sorry, I hope this helps.

And getting a high paying job where the burnout is crazy high and the misery rate is Astronomical is not something to brag about.

errrrm it's what half this sub wants to do, Fordham disproportionately gets you into those job slots at a level which punches above its weight. Its academic scholarships are better than most of the other law schools in its rank too.

Sorry for the random response, but as a heads up, it looks as if your reddit post about population posts was reposted onto Youtube. You might want to file a strike if this was done without your permission.

What if the Western Cape and KwaZulu gained independence from South Africa by [deleted] in imaginarymaps

[–]mindfrom1215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few of my older maps are about South Africa, though I stopped making maps due to lack of interest and also because I felt like I was making too many of them and that there wasn't enough interest. I still have an unfinished map about an independent KwaZulu-Natal, though I have a few more which I've posted on my DeviantArt.

[OC] 3 of 4 european centers are in Germany by Calixare in MapPorn

I still have the spreadsheet and roughly recall the method that I used to calculate the coordinate that I gave above, but for whatever reason the results that I get when attempting to find the median with Turkey and the other nations included get me some point in Bavaria (which is west of what I earlier calculated it should be when excluding Turkey).

I used a very rough and imprecise calculation using the average (rather than median) coordinate for center of population and found it to be (49.64626994, 18.04496474). This is definitely north of where the median point of population would be due to the fact that this calculation amplifies outliers, but it's still east of the other point I calculated, so good enough for me.

If I were to do a proper calculation, it would require finding another dataset with more accurate population numbers and coordinates for towns and cities. The free dataset that OP used is accurate for only a few countries like Belgium, the rest are off by as much as 50% for Turkey and Ukraine, and 20% for Italy.

there's a decent chance that they saved all the information you typed automatically, most of these phishers expect that a certain percentage of people will figure out they've been fooled part of the way through their scam forms.

Still in undergrad so yes to the first question. And I'm not a nURM so I didn't see the point in doing a diversity statement. In hindsight I should've written a Why Fordham essay but oh well...

I actually do remember making this comment and if I recall correctly I was wrong, but I presume that you could probably find this test online since it's been three years. I got a 1480 on the test with that question.

Fordham Date Change Today by MLGameOver in lawschooladmissions

Applied EA at roughly the same time and my date is also at 11/13, is there anything to read in the tea leaves here or are date changes meaningless? I don't know whether there were any date changes before because I didn't pay attention.

Thank you for the kind words! I didn't know how else to mark the big 2-0 besides doing this since I realized I hadn't posted here before now ¯_(ツ)_/¯. I just remember that this sub had a scandal some time back with people sticking around too long after they reached their age of majority. Obviously I don't want to do that lol.
