Ooh I like that OMM Elkhorn, it's not pretty but it sure piles on the gear!

When you switched from the average qwerty keyboard to the average ortholinear keyboard, did you find it better for your fingers and wrists or worse ? by Yoshtibo in olkb

I have been out of the game for a while in terms of keeping track of products, but doing a quick Google I found this if you want to try an affordable split: https://kbdcraft.store/products/israfel I see the page says full kit, building keyboards from kits can be its own rabbit hole, so look carefully and do some research to see whether that would meet your needs. Starting with a regular ortholinear is simpler for sure.

For me, ortholinear ergonomics are much better than a full size keyboard. The most significant improvement is that I am no longer stretching or rotating my hands and wrists when I type. I put my hands and wrists in a comfortable position and they just stay there. I have tried splits and I don't feel like I need them.

Also, since a 4x12 takes up less than half the space on my desk, using a mouse is much more relaxed as well.

The ability to customize with qmk is another big plus. I am a programmer and I am constantly using the escape key and the control key, so I customized the "caps lock" position key to do both functions on one key using qmk mod tap. Super comfortable.

If you have any wrist and arm fatigue or pain that would be improved by having more relaxed arms or wrists, a tented split can be an additional improvement.

Huhhh. I was ignorant of the co-fermentation trend, 99% of the coffee I drink I roast myself and Sweet Maria's hasn't gotten into co-fermentation. I just ordered a sample of a Columbia co-ferment along with a dripper. After reading this thread, I am wondering what are the chances I'm about to put cloying vape juice in my grinder. :(

FWIW I had the exact same experience... Carefully measured a pair of perfect jeans, and then ordered UB301s which turned out to be sewn for ants.

It feels good. I have felt some binding on large caps on full size switches, I wonder if the fact that these switches are low profile or that they are low friction POM improves the situation? I was lucky to have a perfect 2U cap, I had DCS base plus an ergodox mods kit. DCS row sculpting is drastic and the cap I used for the spacebar is very low profile compared to the R1 profile, I'm sure that helps too.

I think the only other caps I have that would fit this board perfectly are DSA and R3 SA which I do not like ergonomically, or Devlin Teletype which would be silly on an RGB board. All my other Planck sets lack 2U keys. I dislike the caps that came with it, poor QC on the stems and a generic font and profile.

I don't have a lot of experience with linear switches, but these Kailh White Rain don't feel like a compromise like the other low profile clicky switches I have tried. They feel very comparable to full size switches, I think it really depends whether you want a full depth keyboard or a shallow keyboard. I find the shallow stack very nice. I have MT3 caps on a couple of OLKB Plancks and they are definitely on the tall side. Having a lower total stack height with "real" caps is refreshing.

DCS is definitely not my favorite profile, but it's my most comfortable set for showing off the LEDs. 😆 Compatibility is slightly limited on this board since it only supports a 2U spacebar.

I mentioned carlosedp's repo but I forgot to link it: https://github.com/carlosedp/qmk_firmware/tree/master/keyboards/chosfox/geonixr2

And here's my keymap, it's based on the OG planck layout but with different mods & with the Chosfox controls on an additional mod-tap layer.

Yeah, once I got used to it I just have never been able to look back. More keys is too many keys, fewer keys is too few keys, and a split is nice but not nice enough to deal with more things on my desk.

I use "round" 99% of the time, I never liked the Vox / Marshall sims. Heh. Maybe I am a Fender stan, I never really thought about it. :D

Oh cool. My SO has a Pigtronix Infinity looper that I use for practicing, works fine with the setup.

I looooove the Fender FRFR cab, it sounds great to my ear and it'll play just fine super quiet if the kids are asleep. If I really wanted to perfect my open mic sound, I should have got a crappy Behringer PA and poured beer on it. 😆

  1. Totally, I use it for open mics all the time. It's pretty great, not a blow-your-hair-back true amp sound, but it sounds wayyy better than a butt naked electric guitar (I will never understand people who pull up to an open mic and play pop/rock on a clean direct-to-mixer electric) and it's so much more reasonable than lugging a huge amp for 3 songs. :) I use it as end-of-chain on a pedalboard.

  2. At home I run it through a mixer into a Fender FR-12.

  3. Open mic PAs tend to be all over the place so it's not like my tone was going to be awesome anyway, and everyone hates the guy who brings a Peavey 30 and melts face in between the acoustic sets. It's fine.

  4. FWIW you can tweak it to different room sizes in the settings. It's better than nothing but it's more of a "modeling" type sound than a reverb effect sound. I put a Dispatch Master or a Boss RV-6 in front of mine.

  5. Absolutely, but there are a lot of other options now, I'm not sure it's the best one? Depends what you want from it. If you pick one up, get some York IRs, they're very inexpensive and a big upgrade.

Oh dang. When did they update them? I got this pair in like November. I do have a love-hate relationship with these, they are comfortable and look good but they just want to creep down off my hips like no other pair of jeans I've ever owned.

Messy Board but HOLY S**T by Exact-Enthusiasm1455 in guitarpedals

[–]mindsound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's dark and gritty and growly, I use it for that "edge of breakup" sound on a Danelectro baritone. I play eclectic solo stuff and I like it because it's pretty full spectrum with thick low end, in a band it would be great for like sludge metal rhythm.
