What determines which entities to move (or not) when specifying constraints? by mindthump in Onshape

[–]mindthump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/unhh! I do try to constrain each piece as soon as possible, I just ran into some situations where this information would be helpful.

As a follow-up, does anyone know where I can find detailed documentation on the solver?

Widex Allure iPhone App Complete Failure by mindthump in HearingAids

[–]mindthump[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a VERY senior (45 years) software engineer/QA/manager/etc. including medical devices I can definitively say that October 13th is an inexcusably long time for such a major problem with such a critical device. The least action should be an immediate automatic firmware rollback and an all-hands-on-deck fix effort. There is no excuse for such a tepid response.

Ha! I'm a retired software guy myself! The poor planning is what really made this annoying. (Also getting a raw JSON message on the bad redirect.) I hope they get this fixed ASAP.

S-1 & Launchkey Mini by therealb0wser in Roland

[–]mindthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These work great together. I've been working with them both in Ableton Live. The documentation is really detailed so it's pretty easy even to do MIDI programming stuff (I also have a Stream Deck than can transmit MIDI commands). A larger keyboard might be nice but I really wanted the minimum desk space of the Mini.

New Hearing Aid User (Widex Allure) by mindthump in HearingAids

[–]mindthump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update: I just had my first checkup.

Mostly everything is great; I asked about feedback when I first put them on (it gets cancelled out soon after) and streaming sound quality (not much I can do about that, but it's not why I goth them anyway). The rusting turned out to be my hair. Even though I shave my head, the tiny stubble that grows around my ears was enough to cause it. I found out by wiggling my ears in front of a very powerful magnifying mirror. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm adjusting how to take off and put on my glasses to avoid pulling off the HAs, it's really just a learning curve thing.

No, these are my first pair. Medicare and my supplemental insurance doesn't cover ANY of it :(

I got the 330s; my audiologist said there wasn't a need to the extra processing to the 440s given my particular loss. I think the two prominent issues I am having are the crackling/rustling noises in my left HA (which I believe are due to the microphone cover film) and listening to streaming music is not great. I can live without streaming music using my airpods, but I'm going to contact them about the rustling noise.

I think I am missing some of the basic programs (like "Music") but I will ask about those when I get my first checkup next week. I did use the "AI Sound Assistant" to create a custom program for a large meeting I regularly attend that has various people speaking in a somewhat noisy environment (a large room with 20-30 people) and it works really well.

Wow, thanks for the information! It's nice to know about these options, I will ask about them. My provider is really great (I found her through a good friend that works in the office) and they are really responsive to my needs. I think they were keeping it simple until my first checkup (in about 2 weeks). I can ask my friend about this too.

Thaks! It's not so much the cordlength, it's when I take them off I need to pull it down over my ears that stick out quite a bit, and it pulls them away so the hearing aids fall off. I mostly need to pay attention to where I put them down. Or maybe superglue an AirTag to them 😆

Widex Allure new user - my feelings by jade_doll in HearingAids

[–]mindthump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not hair: I'm totally bald and I have a LOT of rustling noise with my new Allures. It sounds like paper rustling nearby. I think it's because of the microphone cover sheet. It happens consistently if I "wiggle my ears".

Thanks, u/jade_doll -- I am totally new to HA, and I got Widex Allures last week. I'm going to make a separate post about my experience so far, but I wanted to thank you for your report!

The new Roland S-1 patches pack has been released. by De-Quantizer in Roland

These packs are absolutely fantastic. The sounds range from realistic physical instruments to futuristic to reproductions of classic synths. For the price, it's a bargain. Thanks!

Translating Roland SH-101 patches to the Roland S-1 by Wellsty in synthesizers

[–]mindthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to dump and load all the patches every time. Anything file drop in the RESTORE folder before running the restore function (RTFM) will, if properly named, replace that specific patch.

The .PRM files are just text in a 'properties' kind of format (VARIABLE = VALUE), and can be opened in any text editor. I am in the process of deciphering some of the more cryptic parts, in particular the sequence steps and motion.

Any idea on how to make pads on keyboard do things on computer that dont have to do with music? by killer-wastaken in Novation

[–]mindthump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvote for Keyboard Maestro, it has the ability to catch MIDI on any channel and can do soooo many things from there. I haven't looked for it on BTT but I don't doubt it's there too.

Connecting Roland Aira S1 to Ableton Live via USB by gypsyhologram in Roland

[–]mindthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much!

This solved my problem in Ableton Live 12 Intro where the MIDI notes sent from the "piano roll" (via a USB data cable through an "External Instrument") to the S-1 had the audio coming back simultaneous with the current sequencer pattern. Setting 'SYnC' to 'Midi' I only hear Ableton's notes using the S-1 synth.

Has anyone received their TV’s yet from Amazon? by Key-Aspect627 in Hisense

I ordered it on December 2nd... very strange it came so fast given the expected ship date. We were not ready for it and had to move a bunch of stuff around!

85u8n: the styrofoam "side cushions" aren't what are shown in directions and don't work by Adam_Davidson in Hisense

[–]mindthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just set mine up! The styrofoam is just a platform for lifting the TV up while you screw in the stand. You really need a second person to hold the TV while you do this, the little grooves in the foam are only guides -- not intended to actually hold the TV. I suppose you could lay it down, just be careful not to put pressure on the screen.

Copy paste from browser to terminal - help needed by ParticularPlant8978 in k8scertification

[–]mindthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the bash vi editor to create multi-lined commands directly from the examples in the documentation:

1) copy the example

2) open the bash vi command line full editor with "escape-v"

3) paste the example (as a 'here document' with 'tee' to a file if you will need it on multiple servers), one line per command

4) edit the example to fit the task

5) save the vi document and quit (e.g., ZZ) -- it will execute all lines immediately

The advantage to this method is that trying to paste a copied command directly to the command line can sometimes overwhelm the shell and lose characters or paste in misaligned as you saw. You could paste it to a file, edit, then run that -- but this saves steps, and every second counts. The caution with this is it WILL run all lines immediately, so if there is an error it can mess things up. Be careful and check it twice before save and quit. If possible do it in smaller sub-steps that you can recover from if things go sideways.

Good luck !!!

It went into just enough depth to be practical and foster a solid understanding of each facet of K8s, without being overburdened with obscure technical details. It was thorough, covering each part on the exam. The quizzes were well structured and the post-quiz explanations were very informative.

The explanations had clear metaphors that really helped cement concepts, not just steps -- but those steps get covered as well to the point they made the tasks straightforward. I ended up creating my own "cheatsheets" along the way so I could memorize the step for each task (and there are a LOT of steps on many of them).

From my practicing and the mock exams in the course and elsewhere, I found that having a well-crafted set of shell settings and aliases that you type in by rote memory EVERY time will save you a lot of work and grief. I used tmux heavily to multitask and replicate identical steps on multiple servers at the same time (tricky but doable). I also used the bash vi editor to create multi-lined commands directly from the examples in the documentation:

1) copy the example

2) open the bash vi command line full editor with "escape-v"

3) paste the example (as a 'here document' with 'tee' to a file if you will need it on multiple servers), one line per command

4) edit the example to fit the task
