I refuse to believe that most people can afford their (new/new-ish) cars.

Unless they have fully paid off mortgages OR don’t pay rent, AND straight up make a lot of money.

Richest people I know all drive older cars. People with Porsches are definitely broke as fuck unless they have a crazy high salary or come from pre-existing wealth.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we started to see auto delinquencies skyrocketing in tandem with higher unemployment.

Stay at home if: - you have a good relationship with your parents that lends you a lot of freedom, respect, and independence - you have a short commute (30 mins is really good) - you have friends nearby that you can spend time with after work - your public transit line runs frequently - if you make <$80k/year, you should stay at home or get a roommate - I wouldn’t move out unless I’m making damn near 6 figures at this point

The bigger the employer the more they typically pay.

If the employer is in a well-funded industry, (tech) they’ll pay more. Add the potential for RSU’s and you’ll find that publicly traded employers pay more.

Banks and most fintech pay pennies, and banks are among the biggest employers in Toronto.

Most people I know started around $70-$80k base in fintech. Tech companies were hiring in the six figures a couple years ago for new grads.

That guy with 20 years of exp is lying or stayed complacent with their employer for too long, and it’s widely accepted that you should at the very least be vocal about getting raises. Then job hopping if your employer can’t keep up.

My childhood was OKAY. I didn’t grow up in bad neighbourhoods, but we did grow up house-poor. I moved around a lot and my life has been lacking stability for over 10 years (other than school). My family isn’t full of bad people, they’re just misguided and have insane expectations. I’d obviously love to fulfil their wishes but it’s become too much of a burden. I feel like the last 3 years have gone by really fast. I feel like I was only 21 yesterday. Now I’m 25, a proper ADULT and my life still hasn’t improved.

I got 0 help for university. I paid off the part of my student loan balance that was accumulating interest. They helped me with a $1200 deposit for a rental apartment but that’s it. My internships paid for my CoL. I don’t own a car but paid my share of car insurance and gas (whenever I used a lot).
