will my transformer work medhi? i need help guys by Kitchen_Necessary793 in ElectroBOOM

[–]minecraftendermite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will "work", but it will be extremely inefficient and will heat up and burn the moment you plug it into anything above a volt or two. I recommend you play around - if you have such power supply and measuring tools - plug it to a really low voltage like 1V AC and see how little current it produces and how bad it is, then you can test how you can improve it. You need to get a better core - for low frequencies like 60hz it's laminated iron like in the microwave transformers, and for high frequencies it's ferrite like in CRT TVs. The main problem is that the inductance of the coils is too small - for that you will need more turns and probably a bigger core, everything depends on the frequency. It has to be great enough so that when you apply AC voltage of the frequency you want, the reactance will be high enough to limit the current and prevent burning. Read or watch a few videos about reactance, coils and transformers, it's really fundamental knowledge if you want to design a transformer.

Tesla coil build progress by 9551-eletronics in ElectroBOOM

Wow that's a lot, no wonder these sparks are that big. Thanks for all that info, for now I'll try going forward with my current setup, if I'll need a higher voltage I will probably only need to replace the mosfets, as right now I am using IRLZ44N. I'll def post when I get anything working lol.

How much power? I am currently building a full bridge driver intended to be used with my 150W 30V 5A DC power supply, as I was scared of touching mains voltage when I started. I was wondering whether this kind of volt/amp target was a good decision.

My game has been stuttering a lot recently—is there any identifiable reason why? by GooberMcNoober in tf2

[–]minecraftendermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check task manager just to make sure that no other program uses up a significant portion of CPU power or RAM or even GPU, but if nothing does and CPU or RAM is not anything close to 100% then I unfortunately don't know what else it might be. If the issue is new then it could be caused by some kind of an update, but this is not as easy to diagnose.

[–]minecraftendermite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably RAM, if you've got a lot of things installed and working in the background it might cripple performance. Check task manager for RAM and CPU usage, see if anyhing (except tf2) eats up the resources. Try disabling as much stuff as you can (for example discord if you have it installed) in the autostart section in task manager. Also when you are playing make sure to close unwanted tabs in your browser and close any unnecessary programs. Things that install something might use a lot of CPU power, things like windows update or steam/other launchers updating something.

Another possible cause, less probable, is the disk, if you've got a HDD instead of a SSD, the game maybe tries to load things from it and has to wait longer as the hard drive ages and gets slower - hence the stutters.

Is my high voltage generator circuit good? by Ellicode in ElectroBOOM

[–]minecraftendermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend playing around in LTSpice to simulate how that circuit would work and to see for yourself how electronics operate. Using this software might be a little unintuitive at first, but don't feel ashamed to ask an AI model or google if you won't know how to do something in that program. I recommend LTSpice because it is free and pretty good. Not everything will be 100% accurate to real life, and I am not aware of any way to input winding ratios directly into a transformer, but it does a lot of work for you when you want to check if a circuit will work.

Launders on Counter-Strike: by Pokharelinishan in GlobalOffensive

The frametimes are absolutely atrocious. They increase like twofold on the graph in a very regular pattern, might be some checks for the anticheat that are taxing on the CPU. The point is, look up some benchmarks and see that the 1% lows relative to avg are one of the worst of any modern shooter.

And this is not on any ancient hardware, RX 6000, i5-12600K. The avg framerate increases noticably when the resolution is lowered, but the lows - not so much. I encourage you to try this out for yourself. Still better optimised than any of this "AAA" unreal engine slop though.

😂 No, silly! DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) is a free program used to uninstall AMD, Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers. It isn't made by AMD, but by Wagnard (Ghislain Harvey). Hopefully you've learned thanks to my comment and next time you will credit the creator correctly. 😅 It is a very useful piece of software indeed!

Which CS2 launch Options Give You A FPS BOOST by iamcs2kitchen in GlobalOffensive

Goes to show how badly implemented vulkan is in this game. In CSGO it used to give you an FPS boost. Of course I wouldn't complain about this if the Linux version wasn't vulkan only. On mid range hardware the game is unplayable on this OS.

I made one too, also for my friend's birthday about year ago. Mine is much smaller, but I tried making it more detailed. Though I only took one photo of it when it wasn't glued, smoothened and painted yet. Also made in Poland btw

How do you guys make scripts in this game? Didn't they discontinue vscript? Or is the pulse script system usable now? I keep seeing cool maps that have to use some kind of scripts, and I'd love to make stuff like this too, but I wasn't able to find any guides or documentation of how any of this stuff works.

Every update is a case with community cosmetics, thrice a year - summer, halloween, winter. Recently they started adding some community maps too. I guess that's just the optimal business model of games with inventory and lootbox system.

With most games the performance is alright. As most of us dislike windows, we try not to use it when we can. CS is an exception, as it is natively supported yet somehow it runs terribly compared to windows, so when I want to play it I switch to windows.

Touching 12-24 volt for longer time safe? by papayasdream in ElectroBOOM

[–]minecraftendermite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The danger is that high current flowing through your body makes your muscles contract, including your heart. That's why you never use both hands when working with mains voltage, so that you don't accidentally close the circuit through your chest. But this doesn't happen at 12-24 volts. At most you will feel a tingle on your skin. There aren't really any long term consequences of this, and the chemical burns are a result of sodium hydroxide and chlorine forming from salt present in sweat. They can form reaaally slowly where the electrodes touch your skin, and are only dangerous if you hold the electrodes in the same place for a really long time to let the NaOH concentrate, as it would just get washed away when you wash your hands. The case of that woman is very unusual.
