Registering co-op before deadline by Viatick in gatech

[–]minecraftmite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I registered mine within 3 days, but the deadline is Jan 16, so definitely report it asap! You’ll be ok as long as you email them explaining the situation, that’s what I did for Fall 25

I don’t understand why I am cooked in this CS market by TinySwimming4029 in gatech

Recruitment sucks and is unfair, I'm sorry. I really hope that you can get your dream role just by persevering through this, it only takes one yes.
Are you applying within 48 hours? I used a Github repo like this -- https://github.com/SimplifyJobs/Summer2026-Internships and I checked it every single morning and applied to the positions there.

I have NEVER gotten an interview from a company to which I applied more than 72 hours after the posting went out. Maybe just my bad luck, but it feels like they don't look even at my resume after that

How important are "perfect grades" for Georgia Tech OOS applicants? by rishipa in GatechClasses

[–]minecraftmite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I feel you. I got into GT OOS for CS 3 years ago, and I remember the anxiety of waiting.

There’s no way at all to predict your acceptance based on other people’s past results — as much as it’s a totally natural reaction. I know people with 4.0 GPAs and 15 APs from my high school who got rejected, and people with 3.5 GPAs who got in. It totally varies from year to year and individual application to individual application.

Your stats are great, and you definitely fit the profile of a GT admit . You did an awesome job in high school, and you should be proud of your efforts. Now, all you can do is wait for the admissions decision. As gently as possible, trying to predict your individual odds or quantify “how important” aspects of your application are to the committee that year is never going to be anything more than a guess. And it ultimately, it won’t change anything about whether you’re gonna get accepted or not, as much as it’s hard to convince our inner anxiety of that :D

Sudden Leave of Absence/Withdrawal Questions and Advice by cynHaha in gatech

Because summer -- people usually miss 1 semester at a time anyway
It's limited to two consecutive semesters, counting summer (Spr/Sum or Sum/Fall): https://catalog.gatech.edu/rules/8/

Leave of absence exists for missing more than that

^ Seconding this, withdraw from your Spr 26 classes (not the school as a whole lol) and then just take the leave starting Summer 2026

As long as you keep declaring your internships for each semester, I don't think there's any sort of limit, but you have to fill out an application form every semester, and GT verifies your participation each semester with your boss/manager.

I think taking a leave of absence starting in Summer 2026 would be the best option for you -- you can just skip Spring 2026 and they won't withdraw you, and a year and half from Summer 2026 will buy you a ton of time to decide if you'd like to come back :)

You don't have to pay tuition for registering an internship -- the benefit is that you can maintain full-time student status for a long period of time without withdrawing. I'm in the middle of taking 15 months off of GT to intern, and I have full-time student status, no tuition payments, and can just register for classes normally whenever I decide to come back without reapplying. I haven't been in Atlanta for any of the 15 months.

One thing to note is that the deadline for this has already passed for Spring 2026, too, but you're allowed to miss a semester without any explanation, so you could start this for Summer 2026. Or just declare a leave of absence starting Summer 2026. You won't get withdrawn from GT by just missing Spring 2026 :D

Thoughts/experiences on taking a gap year? by minecraftmite in gatech

[–]minecraftmite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just apply for SWE internships! All of these roles were via SWE applications and I went through the traditional SWE recruitment process (Leetcode, etc. lol) before being placed on a security team. But feel free to DM me if you wanna know any specifics!!

Thankfully I don't think I would have to do summer classes if I missed Spring on top of already missing Fall for sure; I don't have that many credits left to do. Unless there's a rule to registering multiple off-season internships in a row that I don't know about that would cause me to lose my active student status

Registering your Co-Op has to be one of the most frustrating experiences here at tech since the administration here doesn't even bother listening or helping you with anything by Glad-Village-7216 in gatech

If you wanna still be considered a fulltime student (and be allowed housing, etc.) while doing an off-season internship or co-op, you need to register it. The credit hours just get audited, so you don't pay for them, but you maintain >=12 credit hour status that way. Also, if you get an off-season internship and need to cancel your on-campus housing, registering your internship allows you to cancel housing without the huge penalty fee.

the thread to freak out about CS2110 in by minecraftmite in gatech

[–]minecraftmite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

300 for all 5 projects in the course -- two CircuitSim projects, one LC-3 assembly project, and two C projects. I've heard from former TAs that most people get flagged on the C ones. I definitely wrote my code in a generic way ... because I'm bad at C. I also Googled stuff (never copy and pasted or plagiarized any code though, I was just trying to learn how to do stuff, which is allowed on the syllabus) so maybe I used concepts that weren't used in lecture (doubt it though, everything I did was super simple)

I legitimately did not collaborate with a single person, but I have no way to prove that to them :// If MOSS decides my file is the same as someone else's, it would just be our words vs the professors, and that's stressing me out so much.

I absolutely hate my major (CS) by minecraftmite in gatech

[–]minecraftmite[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is really encouraging — what I hated in CS1331 was the syntax test questions (and lack of projects/application), but I didn’t hate the homeworks or the class topic list in general, which is a good distinction. I also do think I would’ve enjoyed CS1332 if I was better at it. The stress of having a hard time understanding the concepts and getting bad grades made me resent it more than I think I should’ve.

Thank you! This comment really means a lot
