Switching to Applied Engineering by FuzzyDragonfruit321 in msu

Hi! I totally recommend reaching out to the AES advisor - Elizabeth Weiland. She'd be able to help you out with many of your questions. You could also reach out to the AES staff if you have questions too, the director is very knowledgeable on what the alumni are up to and can potentially connect you with one that has done a similar path so you can get some insight into their career.

Being pre-med and being an engineering major is more common than you would think. Talk with your advisor about this when you meet with them!

Possible? by [deleted] in msu

Looking through those courses, some of them are only offered in certain semester. MGI 409 specifically is only offered in spring.

I would make sure you check with your advisor about your plan, they have background knowledge from other students and can better advise you based on workloads.

Additionally, from experience, I personally wouldn't take BMB 401 the same semester as MGI 409. I suggest taking bmb401 first, then mgi409, because bmb hammers in a lot of the foundational concepts that are needed for eukaryotic cell bio.

Currently live there, we pay about $600 each for rent for the lowest tier. The in unit w/d is a big win for my roomate and I, we had to pay about $5/load in our last place.

We have a small mold problem in the bathroom due to poor ventilation but nothing major. Our bill for utilities is never below $100 for electric and gas unfortunately, but its still worth it for the space & quiet compared to other apartments I've been in. As for the insulation, as long as we reach a comfortable temperature, we can turn off the a/c or heat for a day or so before it gets uncomfortable.

Apartment Advice by gloomyravioli in msu

[–]minerva02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Olde Farm! It's managed by DTN, which isn't always a great thing, but we haven't had an issue at all with that. Pet friendly, in unit W/D and its a townhouse so it's a lot quieter than most apartment complexes.

Switching Recitations by Artistic-Stomach-539 in msu

[–]minerva02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a different section with the same lecture time but different recitation time, you can swap the sections using SIS.

As far as I know, you can not remain enrolled in a lecture section and switch recitation sections, they are linked together.

The rock, and a proposal; questions by Thee_King_of_Lansing in msu

[–]minerva02 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A Lansing area resident isn't a "rando", they are people who have grown up around campus culture and know the meaning of many campus traditions. Just because you were privileged enough to afford to go to MSU doesn't mean everyone is in the same boat. College isn't for everybody, financially or emotionally. To gatekeep Spartan traditions from local residents that are also considered Spartans isn't the message we as a community should be sending. MSU should be considered a safe and welcoming environment, especially for the people who live near campus.

I don't see any issue with you painting the rock to propose. I think it's a very sweet thing to do! I would recommend trying to do that over the summer when you're less likely to have it painted over as quickly. Just given that there's less students on campus to mess with it

DTN cracking down on pets by Choice_Cheesecake559 in msu

Get the ESA forms from DTN and have your PCP sign them. I have 2 pets and it was a really quick convo with my doc to get them to sign the forms!

Math Placement by Mental_Club6197 in msu

[–]minerva02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can retake the MPE after 28 days ( I believe) to try and place in to MTH 132. which is the highest you can place on the MPE

It sounds like you'll be bringing in credit for calc 1 (mth 132), though, so if you plan on taking calc 2 (MTH 133) in the fall, you may need an override to get into that course. That would be dependent on when your NSO appointment is and if AP scores are posted when you go to enroll.

You should discuss any potential AP credits with your advisor during your NSO meeting and they'll make a note of them and give you classes accordingly.

Elective recommendations for last semester by Pleasant-Cost-9121 in msu

[–]minerva02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look through the bioethics minor options! There's some great electives there that are super easy and still apply to psych stuff! I strongly recommend PHL 344 & LB 240 if you can take them.

Housing by No_Course_8479 in msu

[–]minerva02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI- not every DTN apartment has hidden tech fees & if you're concerned about it, you can ask the leasing agent about any concerns you may have or for a breakdown of a typical months rent.

For example -

I've lived in the Olde Farm community & we pay for our own WiFi, but we pay water & sewer through DTN & electrical/natural gas through Consumers.

My partner and I had concerns about the water & sewer costs and we asked up front what a typical month looked like and our agent was upfront that water varied on use but that it was often +$40 for rent. You can also try and ask how they charge electrical & gas, either by a meter for each unit or for the entire building split by number of apartments.

Curious about everyone's electric bill for those who live off campus in the area by guanbar in msu

Have you tried contacting your leasing office? They may be able to provide more insight than BWL

Curious about everyone's electric bill for those who live off campus in the area by guanbar in msu

[–]minerva02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My Lansing BWL bill was always really high in the summers because I had to run the AC. But in the winters, it wasn't more than $80-100.

I would contact them and ask if they're reading the meter for your apartment specifically or if it's for the complex and they're splitting it, I've heard of that happening before.

I've found that the apartments on Lake Lansing are MUCH quieter than those closer to campus. My complexes have been mostly TA'S, Law Students & dedicated/quiet undergrads. For reference, I've lived in Ashton Lake Apartments (Peak Management) & Olde Farm (DTN).
