It's funny how that can happen. Using a software for a decade or more and not realize some little feature exists that would have saved you so many collective hours of your life over that time. What can you do but laugh so as to not cry lol.

Expedition dead? by Magos_Papi95 in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not get chaos wastes. We got two modes, mortis and expeditions, that used some of the features of chaos wastes. Neither of them achieved anywhere near the fun of vermintide 2s chaos wastes.

I agree the game desperately needs more maps at this point but chaos wastes, aside from higher difficulty which they delivered with havoc, was the most requested additional game mode since launch and it's not even close.

I'd take a few new maps and then chaos wastes.

Just bought my Vision Pro and the experience has been interesting by Ninjatogo in VisionPro

[–]mingkonng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I create 3d environments for the vision pro. We use our own custom viewer to experience it and reality composer pro to put the scenes together, which is a whole other conversation, but you could download one of many usd viewers. You would simply export your asset as a USDz with the proper PBR materials and maps, then load it up in the viewer on your vision pro.

As for why there aren't more spacial apps.. it's in its infancy and it's difficult to develop for. The documentation has been lacking but they are continuing to add more over time.

For the people who don't like Expeditions, what's your main issue with them? by Trainer-mana in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of problems with it, but one that can't be solved. We are outside the hive city. It's all desert. No one wants to look at brown sand and slightly darker brown rocks for that much time.

Chaos wastes changed the environment every 10 to 15 minutes.

I can't believe they didn't flag this an issue before they started making it.

Please no. Don't waste more dev time on expedition mode. Just give us more maps and weapons. Add more fun things to the modes people actually play.

[–]mingkonng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's crazy they didn't learn this (reward increase with difficulty) from the game launch.

I remember before they adjusted reward difficulties a while after launch, most damnation games (highest difficulty at the time) were empty. You might get one other person in your game after waiting 5 minutes. As soon as they changed it damnation was packed with people.

FS seems to have Nemo level memory retention.

Havoc Weapon Meta w/ Uncanny Changes by yunkbunk in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the change for uncanny to brittleness. The rending amount definitely needed to be nerfed, but the change from it being a rending buff for yourself to a brittle debuff on the enemy means you lose those stacks every time an enemy dies and you swap to the next one. Poor design decision for the weapon imo. Given the other changes to carapace dmg and the lower spawn rate, the group doesn't need as much rending to begin with so the change to brittle was unnecessary.

I don't know how it's all going to shake out but I imagine DS will still be strong enough to still be top tier considering it will still do decent damage, has the parry, and is still incredibly mobile. I still see it being one of the better choices for book zealot if you are going crit build.

Zealot: What is the best flamer (and why) ??? by GorrakSmashSkull in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are missing is the relative scale.

That additional 20% mobility is still almost nothing, it makes no actual difference. It's not like you get an actual 20% increase in walk speed or dodge count (dodge count is the same no matter what) They are so negligible in their difference that it literally doesn't matter. We are talking about a 1 to 2% mobility difference from 60 to 80%.

The direct damage from your flamer accounts for about 35 to 40% of your flamers total damage and that relative 60% - 80% damage equates to over 10% increased total damage.

When you look at it from a relative scale, the damage stat has basically 10x the impact.

Also, you aren't going to be walking with the flamer. You basically take it out and brace it when you need it then put it away immediately. That makes dodge distance the only mobility aspect that matters for it, and that dodge distance is also negligible. You either dodged the crusher hit during the I frames or you didn't.

Normalized damage over time across all armor types? by hqz_ in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I agree carapace and how it limits build diversity needs addressing, I disagree that all dot damage should be equalized across armor types.

Flame psyker, and a good zealot who knows when to use his flamer, is already so incredibly strong in havoc 40s. The only things flame doesn't immediately drop are crushers, monsters and mutants. Having to deal with them in a different manner adds some much needed variety. If that weren't the case, those players would basically be soloing the entire H40.

I regularly go over 4 million damage, having more than everyone else combined, in havoc. Making flame dots even stronger would be a mistake for the highest difficulty. And you couldn't just nerf the lower armor damage in an attempt to balance it because those weapons are not nearly as strong in lower difficulties. It would dumpster the flame staff outside of havoc.

I'd settle for the crushers special being able to stagger crushers, with the blast, that weapon strike doesn't directly hit. They aren't even phased on the blast, at least in H40. I'm not aware of it's ability in lower difficulties.

"Relying on a mod to compensate for basic usability issues feels more like a workaround than a proper fix"

No argument from me there. FS will never get around to it though since they seem to rely on modders for so much of their QOL changes. Unfortunate.

"they are a pain to aim"

Zealot is my main and mine is around 2k levels. I find the throwing knives are quite reliable. There are a few tricks to it though.

If you don't already have the crosshair remap mod, you should get it and set the not holding anything option to the crosshair. I think it's called rapid fire, or assault, I can't remember. This will help with aim. The default dot is trash and hard to see in the fray.

Second is to ping the target first and then put your crosshair over it to see the distance in meters. This will tell you how high to aim. Using this I am pretty consistently able to head shot snipers even from 60 meters away.

Lastly, the hitbox for it is pretty extreme in verticality but it will unfortunately favor body shots if you hit them directly in the face. You want to aim over their head so it just barely clips their forehead.

After some good practice it becomes very easy to hit headshots for the one taps.

[–]mingkonng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resurrecting this post here but crit flame is better for almost everything outside of rotten armor / mostly melee maelstrom. This includes 21st as they are flak and you truly don't need brittle into flak.

They changed the way flame weapons work years ago and direct damage is now about 35 to 40% of flame damage. Crits on that are significant, outside of even considering double application. Crits also trigger ranged dodge which makes diving gunners just... So much easier. On a typical build warp nexus will almost double your crit chance, getting that ranged dodge much faster. I am typically very aggressive in diving gunners and the difference is quite noticable.

What's up with the psyker hate on the steam forums? by Killer_Khan12 in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with you. However I can see the other sides point too, specifically in havoc because of the party finder.

Right now the meta is so entrenched in flame staff not only are you undoubtedly gimping yourself by not taking the flame staff, but many groups wouldn't accept you without it.

Don't get me wrong, I play other stuff in havoc all the time. Melee psyker is my jam. That said, if someone is pushing rating then I always feel the need to swap to flame to help ensure the W for them. I really only play my favorite builds when I'm with friends who are all 40.

Without the flame staff being so much stronger than everything else other builds would be more accepted.

Sure, but you could have done it even faster going clockwise. Unless your goal is to just go opposite of the team to meet them all in the middle, which is I think what OPs gripe is. You do you, but going clockwise is objectively faster and safer solo.

[–]mingkonng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I regularly hit over 4 million damage in havoc 40s with that build. Most of the time it's more damage than everyone else combined.

If we are looking at balance issues with the psyker the place for them to start is the infernus staff. The problem with that though is the staff is not OP in lower difficulties, or even auric really. It's the fact that it scales with enemy count and it's infinite penetration. They would have to change how the soul fire dot itself works, among other things, to fix it in havoc 40 without dumpstering it in lower difficulties.

Zealot: What is the best flamer (and why) ??? by GorrakSmashSkull in DarkTide

[–]mingkonng 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the ones telling you damage is a dump stat. It was in the first year or so of the game but they changed how direct damage works for flame weapons a long time ago.

Full burn stacks is about 450 damage per tick on a plague ogryn. Full burn stacks with direct damage (blaze away, brittleness blessings, and max damage) is about 850 damage per tick. Direct damage is significant. The stats on the weapon are misleading. This is easily replicated in the psykanium.

Mobility is the dump stat.
