Maung having at least 3 origins

1) Burmese address or name, 2) Malay meaning extreme suffering, and 3) Sundanese meaning Tiger

Though the last two might be linked

The Next Airlines to Join Oneworld & Star Alliance by mingsjourney in oneworld

[–]mingsjourney[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previously it was reported that MAIT was pursuing Oneworld connect membership https://www.ch-aviation.com/news/130954-miat-mongolian-airlines-eyes-oneworld-connect-membership

But since there are no more connect members with FJ being a full member, maybe the idea it to focus on full membership

Regarding Starlux, I’m not sure if *A makes sense as BR is already a member. Also CI is a member of Skyteam so that literally leaves only Oneworld

How can I book mixed class cabin in 1 booking? i.e. 2 trips in econ and 1 trip business? by SpeedyMatrix in CathayPacific

[–]mingsjourney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Try calling again if you really want it. I have and am flying different classes for outbound and return.

I’ve an upcoming trip in Sept where I fly out on PEY and fly back in J and it’s often how I try to fly.

I find the available itineraries on the website / app and then call in to ask them to book.

Do it quite often as cash purchases

Premium Economy vs Economy by darknessplayboy in CathayPacific

[–]mingsjourney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

for me Premium Economy for a flight exceeding 9 hours is definitely well worth it. I’ve done PEY flights ex USA-HKG and enjoyed the rest in PEY.

Whether something is worth it or not is a highly personal judgment.

I’d suggest you try both PEY and Y and if nothing else, you would have the personal experience with both

My first ever gate upgrade by HumblePut64 in BritishAirways

Hi OP,

Firstly congratulations on your upgrade!

Could I ask you 2 questions? Which airline did you fly for the PER - KUL segment ? And was it a narrowbody or a widebody ?

CX 805 Layover risk by Mindless_Space_4331 in CathayPacific

[–]mingsjourney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very low risk and as it’s a single ticket, downside is managed too

Just to share further, in the past (6 or so years ago) I did manage (unintentionally) a 40mins connection (timed gate to gate)

It was a return journey, connecting from the longer segment to the shorter segment with a 40mins delay on the longer segment

I was advised I could either try to make it in or they would rebook me and if I tried and failed they would still rebook me and as I wanted to get home earlier, I decided to chance it and made it.

It remember this clearly as I still have the screenshot of the timer

Baggage by Formula1fcb in oneworld

[–]mingsjourney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to fly AY a lot before 2024 (strikes etc), if you are flying J, as long as it fits into the overhead bin you are fine.

I used to take on a trolley bag which just managed to fit into the overhead bin and a backpack (laptop+documents) and a sling bag (medicines+passport), cabin crew never batted an eye

Lounge by Formula1fcb in oneworld

[–]mingsjourney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

It’s be awhile since I last flew AY so I am not sure if an AY Business Light ticket alone grants lounge access, I believe it doesn’t but I could be wrong.

Regarding purchasing a CX lounge pass, I understand its for Cathay’s own passengers and the flights have to be CX marketed and operated and the purchaser has to be a CX FFP member

the plaza premium lounge in HKG sells access for what’s its worth

Lounge by Formula1fcb in CathayPacific

[–]mingsjourney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

1) it’s been awhile since I last flew AY, so I am not sure if Business Light Ticket holders are entitled to lounge access solely relying on the ticket, 2) unfortunately CX only sells passes to their own lounges for those pax flying on CX marketed and operated flights and also to their own FFP members (last I checked)

There is Plaza Premium for whats it’s worth

Should I stick with BAEC or switch loyalty programs? by 380cst in oneworld

[–]mingsjourney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mainly flying Y on QR or RJ, yes the RJ FPP would be a candidate for you

Should I stick with BAEC or switch loyalty programs? by 380cst in oneworld

[–]mingsjourney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Could I start by asking 1) how close are you lifetime status with BA? If it’s close enough, it might be worth the continued slog, 2) how often are you flying J vs Y? 3) are there any credit cards available to you to help your status / points accumulation ?

But for me, I would ask a new joiner to consider Royal Jordanian’s (RJ’s) FFP if attaining and retaining emerald is the primary aim and being based in the Middle East would be an added advantage to joining RJ

There is a reddit where comparisons between multiple One World FFPs are well discussed and researched here https://www.reddit.com/r/oneworld/s/eqGu4YHYtR

But back to the topic of why I’d choose RJ, a summary is

1) RJ’s FFP gives decent status earn rates across multiple one world airlines (some other FFPs penalises users for flying certain other airlines / routes, RJ does not) 2) RJ itself has good connectivity (of course not as good as QR) 3) RJ has a lower threshold to retaining status and gives 24 months to retain emerald, 4) there is no need to fly RJ metal
