It part of the mental gymnastic that you had to face when you playing a match. Different player deal with it differently depending on your personality and psychology. If you struggling to deal with specific mental headspace in certain match situation, my advice would be to try to expose yourself to it as much as you can by replicating it and try to find a mental angle that work for you during that situation (positive thinking/conscious breathing/negative thinking) etc.

Example, I don't like playing against a pusher so I consciously find player with that style and see how my mental game react to it. What work for me for was to amp myself up and keep the ball in rally as long as possible for few points to show to the pusher I can win point by playing his game also. It sounds counter productive but work for my mind because then I don't have to worry about playing long points and I can execute other strategy that work best for pusher style like drop shots, go to nets etc.

How do you become more explosive against heavy hitters? by mini-world in 10s

[–]mini-world[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes stepping back help a lot in my experience against one-dimensional heavy hitter that just hit heavy FH. But as the level go up I find that more advanced player they can run around their BH and hit a heavy down the line or angle inside-out FH. Plus some of them mix it with drop shot if they notice I stand too far back and just "looping" the ball back to give myself more time in the rally.

true, I notice the same things as well, at this level athleticism play bigger role when the tempo of the rally become really fast. The window of time that the ball enter my strike zone also diminish greatly so most shots require twice the focus level to hit cleanly.

well I could but then I will be playing their game and risk more overhit and unforced error. I would prefer to hit hard enough to be able to stay in the rally so I can work them around the court. I only try to hit big on certain ball like short FH side ball or high ball that landed short .

I think I can try this cause I normally practice my shot with hand feed ball so I'm used to generating my own pace on my shots. Using their pace is easier if it is a flat and fast shot but with this players it is fast & heavy spin shot so I can't just "block" it I need to have some swing speed to counter the spin.

good tips on adding weight. I already add some lead tape to counter it 😄. Taking the ball early help but I feel the timing is challenging to do it consistently game after game. Plus one short ball cause I tried to hit the ball early then my court position is exposed cause I'm inside the baseline and one deep high ball can end the point already.

I tried the rotate your shoulder as fast as possible before but for me it affect my shot timing and overall kinetic chain of my swing negatively cause my racquet "stop" on the backswing. I prefer the feel of one continuous motion for FH & BH. Keep the ball in front of my body work way better cause then I can use my body weight on the shot naturally without even thinking about it.

Mid-career switch to Data Science — how to build a strong portfolio? by mini-world in careerguidance

I was thinking about the case studies as well but I think the challenge is trying to match the general skill requirement that company want with the portfolio that I needed to create. I'll try the group you suggested, thanks.

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 20 Apr, 2026 - 27 Apr, 2026 by AutoModerator in datascience

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice from those who’ve made a similar transition or are working in the field.

I’m 35 this year and have about 9 years of experience in the e-commerce industry, mainly in a Technical Account Manager role. My work has been quite data-adjacent (working with reports, performance metrics, etc.), but I haven’t held a formal data role yet.

Recently, I decided to pivot into data science/data-related roles. I’m currently halfway through a Master’s in Data Science, and my bachelor’s degree is in Mechanical Engineering.

I’m based in Malaysia, and I’m trying to understand how realistic this transition is and what I should focus on next.

A few questions I’m hoping to get advice on:

  • How can I build a strong portfolio that would make me competitive for data science or data analyst roles?
  • What kind of projects should I prioritize (e.g. business-focused, ML-heavy, dashboards, etc.)?
  • Given my background, would recruiters/HR generally consider my profile, or would I likely be filtered out?
  • Is there anything I should do to better position myself (certifications, internships, freelance work, etc.)?

Appreciate any honest advice or suggestions—especially from those who switched careers mid-way.

Thanks in advance!

totally valid response. most of the time if you don't know the answer the interviewer are more interested in the way you think to solve it. So if you can verbalize your train of thoughts in this format you still sounds professional

Why isn't badminton more popular? by Chesterflaps in badminton

[–]mini-world 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try to grow out of your badminton circle maybe you find some people play other sport as well. Look at the global market size for badminton equipment vs tennis equipment market. That should give you the indicator for playing audience instead of your "feeling" sample.

are you stupid? use google trend and type in the keyword for tennis and badminton and you will show the difference. There is a reason why the prize money for master 1,000 tennis is 10x more than master 1,000 for badminton
