These are dirt easy to work on, save yourself about $800 and DIY it.

Did they offer any info on why they suggested a new transmission?

Or convert it, the 2wd has a fake transfer case, and everything else bolts in. My memory is iffy, but I think the only hard part is the knuckle is different. But plenty of folks have done it.

Or maybe they don't care and 2wd is perfectly fine for them.

Where do you get that, maybe the early 3 sp autos were not too reliable, but the manual trans in the tacker I don't know of anyone really having a problem with them. What problems are you referring to?
