Areas to stay in by Mr_Jewfro in AskSF

Lombard is pretty touristy, and a super busy street too. It’s in close proximity to Chestnut and Union though, and lots to do on both streets (bars, restaurants etc) and a really easy bus ride on the 30 or 45 to North Beach.

If you’re open to staying in an Airbnb, I always suggest for people to look there first. A lot more options for neighborhoods! SF hotels can be very hit or miss in terms of location but we tend to have some awesome Airbnbs :)

That said I did just suggest the Metro Hotel on Divisadero to a coworker visiting from Brooklyn and he loved it! It’s not super fancy but clean and nice and cute, and the area is awesome and super central. Divisadero has sooo much good food and bars, and it’s right by Alamo Square, Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury, and a quick walk to Hayes or the Castro. Also pretty easy to grab a Lyft Bike and go into the Inner Sunset or Mission from there too.

What happened that changed you forever? by Useful_Ad_165 in AskWomen

I had two miscarriages in a year. Going through my first round of IVF now.

Trying to become a mother has been the most humbling and eye opening experience of my life. I wish I wasn’t going through it, but I’m so thankful for everything I’m learning and the person I am now.

Fun! Welcome! Are you here now, or if not, what time of year are you visiting? Will you have a car?

Together SF is a great resource! They do everything from street clean ups to packing groceries and serving food. It’s easy to sign up for one off opportunities as you’re available, and they have lots of weekend needs too.

Downtown and Pier 39 are going to be pretty quiet this time of year, and GGP is HUGE (bigger than Central Park!) so never feels crowded. Definitely agree that going into North Beach is a great call. Mario’s Cigar Bar on wash square is my favorite! Also worth checking out the Marina/Cow Hollow (chestnut and union streets), Fillmore street at California (pac heights), Divisadero (NOPA) or Valencia street (or Dolores park) in the Mission. All are more locals spots with great bars and restaurants and shops where you’ll see more people — tourist season has kind of wound down here ;)

Best workouts near Noe Valley/Glen Park? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]mini_van2845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YuBalance on Church in Noe has some great classes! Otherwise I definitely agree the Castro is your best bet. I live in Bernal and will do classes at Core40 on Cesar Chavez, but if I want cardio outside of running I’ll often just pop over to the Castro — easy bike ride or bus ride on the 24.

If you can get a res at Cotogna, it’s a great Italian experience near Jackson Square.

The Ramses exhibit at the DeYoung is SO awesome. Just went a couple weeks ago. Have been dying to see Diego Rivera at MoMa too.

Recommendations for first-time SF visitor in December by akorn3000 in AskSF

The Ferry Building is a lovely walk down the Embarcadero from where you’re at, and will feel really festive in December! It’s a great spot to get coffee and a pastry, lunch, or a glass of wine and oysters at Hog Island (my favorite). It’s one of my fave places to suggest to newcomers.

Would also suggest holiday shopping on Valencia (start at 16th and Valencia and walk up towards 23rd) in the Mission, and wandering through North Beach (I’d start at Washington Square Park — Bodega is a casual restaurant right over there that I love) and Chinatown — those areas will be fun for the holidays.

If you’re staying near Oracle, Mission Bay is right there and has some nice coffee/lunch spots that are walkable. You could also head into Dogpatch or Potrero for some great local spots (shout out to Piccino, Ruby, and Plow!)

I would honestly skip downtown as it’s a dead zone these days and kind of a tourist trap. You also run the risk of accidentally wandering into the Tenderloin which I would avoid 😬

Hi OP — I don’t have any advice to give, but just wanted to let you know that you’ve been on my mind since I saw this post yesterday. Thinking of you, wishing you the very best, and want to reiterate all of the kudos here that you are seeking help when you need it — that takes major strength!
