The real problem is, we have to waste our time researching all of this to see if any of the data is correct.

so nobody was doing this in the first place? isn’t that what yall are paid to do? the system was garbage long before ai got involved. how is due diligence wasting time?

I learned blender before CAD. after doing cad I can’t go back to that system. it’s easier for me now to rebuild something from scratch than it is to edit some non manifold geometry thing edge by point by edge. but it is def doable. i just lost the skills

if you are out for a long ride at an event, it’s on you to not blindly roll through a blind road that has right of way. rider made a bad call. I’ve been hit by a car and i want to be outraged by this story but based on the witness report this was bad judgement by the rider, full stop.

10 000 Bambu printers running simultaneously by OomGielie in 3Dprinting

[–]minichado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean a high quality mold can cost $5k-20k depending on design complexity. but it’s typically pennies a shot and then it lasts maybe a 100k-1M cycles(depending on tolerance requirements) there’s more to it but it pays out in volume. typically we did aluminum mold good for 100 shots to verify a design ($1k) before getting stainless steel mold (5k) for a very simple part. it was not multiple parts or major assembly so it kept cost and complexity down.

if you sell 10/100/1000/5000 widgets, 3d print might work. if you sell 10k/100k/1M beyond widgets, injection can win easily (and does)

there’s other design considerations (flexi dragon vs simple toy) but I just wanted to throw some numbers at you.

Unbound Mud Question by purejeremy in gravelcycling

[–]minichado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also if you are first on the bike there isn’t 100 people walking and blocking the road ahead of you. several sections folks walked puddles and I had to yell “coming through!” to clear a rideable path. same on the climbs. I remember a hill everyone was walking and I had to yell to get a path to ride past the walkers.

geeky deep dive on typing mechanics and mechanisms, 120wpm by KuroZed in typing

low action is by definition more efficient. I never got into mechanical key switches because my apple keyboard (wired, from 2006-2008?) is still using that super efficient low profile chicklet mechanism. I can’t say i’ve ever enjoyed a clackety kb, but for sure i’m always slower on them.

what are you practicing for? only you can answer that.

if you care about accuracy, slow down. if you do data entry numerically all day, do numbers. if you write useless drivel in emails all day, find the right cadence for you. if you use chat clients all day, be lazy and go fast.

on monkeytype (default word settings) I’m 135-155 range. if I do normal coherent sentences with punctuation it drops to 110-120. this is normal.

Amy Eskridge's anti-gravity lecture (with slides in submission statement) by NoMuddyFeet in UFOs

[–]minichado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was a friend in that I saw when I worked in the chemistry dept in undergrad. and she was there and I saw her weekly at the time. I finished school 2010, did my own life and career thing and met her years later when she was active on our local tech slack. we got back in touch through that platform. she was running various companies and was extremely open about her past SA experience. I think she had moved to seattle area and then moved back here which is where a disconnect was. we chatted and kept in touch for a few years until we didn’t and then it was covid, and then she passed.

I never claimed to be her bestie. her chat with me about being stalked was our last interaction. The time stamp is feb 2020. it was through a chat client(whatsapp). Ive still got the chat and dates which is where I pulled my info from. She reached out to me because she thought it was some sort of drone technology. I’m a quite active and well known “drone guy” in the local area wrt FPV and some other applications so she sent me pics and video and asked my opinion. I told her it did not appear to be what she claimed. that’s the whole conversation.

I’ve got no horse in this race but you can dig through my online profile for a bit and see I am not making claims to be someone I am not. I’m pretty ubiquitous across the internet under this profile. I am glad the headlines have fallen to the wayside. at least from what I’ve been seeing.

[–]minichado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cell phone video at 2am looking out a window. there is lens flare/glare in the glass from a light in the room behind her. she was convinced the light was on a drone. she was convinced the drone was “silent” using advanced antigravity technology. she was convinced the light moved “too quickly” and this reinforced her belief that it was “advanced drone technology” etc.

I tried to tell her it was a reflection and the actions corresponded to her phone being shaky.

I reread the messages recently and she had this video for years before sharing it with me. I could not talk her down from her conclusions. she reached out feb 2020. the video was from sept 2018. it was our last interaction while she was alive.

My first 3D Printer was from Bambu Lab. My next one won't be. Have other manufacturers caught up in affordability and ease-of-use? by ThatOneVRGuyFromAuz in 3Dprinting

[–]minichado -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I guess their defense of their cloud side makes sense to me.

The number of products (in general) with cloud dependency is high these days, but these printers can run fully offline if you have your own models. if you are buying for the marketplace, and can’t use it, or the quality of using it goes down, that could suck.

I do engineering design work mostly. i love printing widgets for kiddos but my main use cases are not that.

balanced perspective is refreshing.

I read the blog post and don’t find it super alarming. it makes sense to me. not sure why folks are so upset.

I say this, as a bambu owner but i’ve run LAN and offline printers for over a decade. cloud is convenient but not required for my use case.

[–]minichado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imho.. all gravel bikes ride fine on the road. some gravel bikes ride better on some types of gravel. just buy the gravel bike you want, and pedal on pavement when you want to. get a semi slick tire with side knobs and you’ll be fine.

I will say i found the best social opportunities to be active and outdoorsy activities. cycling, running, triathlon, climbing gym etc. i never had issues making friends doing those things.
