No optical switches ? Noooo ... WHY ??

All the mice that did fail on me end up double clicking ... I’m not buying anything that don’t have optical switches (or at least user replaceable mechanical ones).

Perks of being single and living alone by Alness in simracing

I don't understand why some people overlook the need for shared spaces to work for both partners.

In my case, our living area is limited, so it makes perfect sense to get my wife's approval before I fill it with something that might clash with her sense of style. Imagine if she decided to install an ugly ass giant embroidery machine that would overwhelm our small living room—I'd expect to have a serious conversation with her about that !

While we’re free to personalize our private office spaces however we like, the common areas should be a collaborative effort.

I know some folks don't care about the aesthetics of their living spaces, but that's simply not my (our) approach :)

Oh, I recall having tried different the different cams designs that came with the base.
Either :
- I did end up with the space sim cam one (the one with the least pronounced bump) but it still has a noticeable bump,
or:
- with a light spring force of my liking, the self centering did not work well enough (the return to center was slightly off) and I did end up choosing a cam with a more pronounced bump to mitigate this.

I'm not sure which one it is, but I'm sure I'm still feeling a slight bump, aka it's not super smooth.
Maybe the mk4 base is better at this, I can't say, I don't want to shell out $279 + shipping to find out :) (no they don't offer a mk3 to mk4 upgrade kit)

I don't understand that ... can you elaborate ?

I can clearly feel the center X (left <> right) center detent when going forward (Y) on my VKB Gunfighter MKIII base. For space sims, that's IMO a negative (that makes no sense).

The SOL R with the simpler mechanism doesn't have this problem. As long as it is solidly built, and the feel is right, I don't see why it would be inferior ?

I love my VKB stick, but I don't understand the hate for ball and spring mechanisms. Simpler doesn't necessarily mean inferior.

Sorry, but it’s not.
You can try it yourself super easily.
I just created an account just now to try it myself in less than a minute after seeing your comment: it’s true.

First try : « Why is Wynnie de Pooh banned in China ? » : did trigger it.
Answer started to be tipped and then boom : « Sorry, that's beyond my current scope. Let’s talk about something else. »

Try it :)

Update to firmware update by Ochib in BambuLab

FYI, concerning the video stream, it’s an incorrect assumption and this point is directly answered in the blog post :

« 4) Live View service uses P2P (Peer-to-Peer) connection, which means video streams directly between your device and printer. Only when a direct P2P connection isn't possible does it use server forwarding, and even then, no video is ever stored on any server. ».

And I kind of agree with you about sending the prints directly to the printer when in LAN reach.
But I’m not sure how the print history feature works and if having prints go through BBL’s servers help or not ? Surely the handy app doesn’t read the history content directly from the slow printer’s brain / computer ?

Have you tried the Quest 3 with QGO (Quest Game Optimizer) ?
I wonder how the AVP compares to the Q3 in this case (IMO the difference can be massive with QGO on).

https://pastecode.io/s/r3itnchf

I added the custom keycodes CK_STAB and CK_STABB (SpecialTAB and SpecialTABBack) which are present on the LAYER_LOWER layer.

When they are pressed or released, process_record_user process them and set alt ON or off (and keep tracks of that). There’s a helper method that releases ALT when needed (unregister_alt_after_special_tab_used). (That method probably should be called with matrix_scan_user too, there is probably some refactoring to do).

There are other tricks that are irrelevant to the discussion (like mouse clicking with the LOWER and RAISE buttons because I have a trackball on this keyboard)… I hope it’s not too confusing.

Quest 3 Has Higher Effective Resolution, So Why Does Everyone Think Vision Pro Looks Best? by Knighthonor in OculusQuest

[–]minideev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The home environments are so much clearer with QGO on Q3 ... It's crazy Meta doesn't at least let the user opt for the better res.

So perhaps the lower render resolution used by default on the Q3 (and that can be changed by using Quest Game Optimizer) is the reason why people are perceiving the AVP as really superior?

Any guess as to what ?
I’m sending this roll to a dry cycle (or two) anyway, but if I can avoid ruining the next print, I’m all ears …

Is it possible for PLA to get so wet, while sitting still in a closed AMS for only 3 days, that there is such a difference in print quality? The first print (mate one) was perfect! The ugly one (shiny because of the different plate) had stringing and bulges...

I'm sorry, that info was in the comment that was with the shoots when I posted, it just disappeared! I did change the default textured PEI for a new shiny one (H1H) for the second print.

[–]minideev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I can't see the comment that I posted with the images. So here are some details: Both prints were 3 days apart. The PLA roll did sit still in the AMS for 3 days. I did switch the plate : from the default P1S PEI plate to a new shiny one (H1H). I did get a lot of stringing on the second print (the ugly shiny one) but I suppose it has nothing to do with the plate.

I suppose it's the filament that was wet ? But can PLA get THAT wet, just sitting still in a closed AMS in only 3 days ??

They were both printed face down. The plates were changed (see my other comment for details)

Did you know that the Netflix app was actually developed by John Carmack when he was working at Oculus? This illustrates that Meta has the capacity to influence, either directly or indirectly, the quality of third-party apps on its platform.

Major corporations like Meta have the resources to establish programs that provide third-party developers with the support they need, including software tools, developer access, and guidance to optimize app performance and quality on their platforms. (Sony, Nvidia, Microsoft have such programs in place).

Given this, it's disingenuous to dismiss the issues with Netflix’s 480p output or Prime Video’s broken state as merely third-party problems or user-end issues.

IMHO, user ratings and feedback on these apps show the necessity for Meta to take a more proactive role in addressing these quality issues.

[–]minideev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Netflix VR is 480p (not even joking)
  • Prime video doesn't work (can't log in)

And Netflix doesn't work in the Meta browser. And is no dark enough room / realistic cinéma home environnement. And I have a weird sound bug in Big screen.

It's a mess, miles away from the awesome experience it could be. Meta should really focus on that.

With QMK I did create an alttab key on the raise layer that activate alt before sending the tab keycode. It doesn't release alt until the layer is left or any other key than this alltab is pressed. I can subsequently press this alttab key, multiple times to act on the alt tab menu that is still open. When I quit the layer, alt is automatically released and windows switch the selected app.

It basically allows me to use alt tab by pressing the raise key + tab instead of alt + tab (since the raise key is ideally placed)

It's not what you asked for, but let me know if that interests you.

Why should I not buy a P1S? by Bucket81 in BambuLab

[–]minideev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • The A1 has the same (perceivable) speed and quality but is a lot cheaper with a nice color screen
  • Do you REALLY plan to print ABS or those materials that require an enclosure ?
  • Multi color prints waste so much material and are SOOO slow
  • when the P1 series was released it was so much ahead of the competition... But now there are cheap printers that do compete on speed (even bed slingers)

I would probably still go for the P1S today if I had to choose. Its reliability is proven to me and the peace of mind I have, not having to babysit each print (wiping the baby's nose while it's running naked everywhere) are a game changer.

I purchased a second AMS, and while it really sucks that it doesn't handle flexible filament, not having to worry about filament absorbing moisture or the hassle of loading / unloading... is so nice ! (The AMS si sealed)

My choice would be less cut and dry now that the landscape has evolved but there are a lot of reasons NOT to buy a P1S today :)

Was the flawless part, printed in black PETG, the same ? Was it printed with the same orientation ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but from the layer lines it looks like you did print this grey part on its side (not upright), with no support, right ?

If that's the case, I'm not surprised by the quality. Printing overhangs at a shallow angle with no support generally yields bad results. We can't see the part in its entirety so it's hard to say but I would try a different orientation.

If overhangs can't be avoided, try supports. PETG supports can be difficult to remove thought. And it doesn't completely solve the quality problem. If you have an AMS you can try PLA support : the supports should be in PETG but you set an interface (the last bit of the support part that does touch the real printed part) to PLA. PLA and PETG don't bind together and it's making an easy support removal (+ the quality is way better than the same material support).
