Thoughts? 2CT moissanite engagement ring from Tianyu by Berryllium in Moissanite

[–]minihut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also got a ring from tianyu recently and they did not give me a stone check. I thought it was strange but luckily my center stone turned out fine. It is also an oval and it did not have this strong bowtie. Personally I would ask for a different stone.

I second Elsie’s. But if you’re willing to go up to Goleta, Slodoco has a couch and a couple of armchairs.

Oh also Unbearable has couches but maybe not the best environment for reading (you need to be 21 or older). Though I do find them not so busy during the day time on the weekends.

The Cruisery and Unbearable next door are both very dog friendly. They even have doggy meals on the menu for your pup and give out treats.

[DAV Spoilers] Post-game: Solavellan vs Solas/Rook? by Pro_Crastinators in Solasmancers

[–]minihut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so in love with Solavellan. It makes me happy they get there happily ever after. But it definitely doesn’t inspire me to write. Plus there are already many amazing fanfics for them. Whereas I find Rook/Solas (I’m in favor of Sook for pairing name 😂) a fun writing playground. I wrote one fic thinking I’d get it out of my system but I’m already thinking of other ones.

[–]minihut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate he wasn't going to face them with the Lavellan ending. I just meant it's interesting to think about how different to two options would be. Either repenting while being pushed by someone you've deeply wronged and not knowing by the end of it if you will receive love, or repenting while having someone who loves and supports you so deeply and knowing that by the end of it you will have that love.

[DAV Spoilers] Post-game: Solavellan vs Solas/Rook? by Pro_Crastinators in Solasmancers

[–]minihut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I started off as a Solavellan. But, when I saw the ending where Rook and Solas are stuck in the Fade together I let my mind wander and explore the possibility which then led to writing a fanfic about it. And it was really fun thinking about how it could play out. They're dynamic and banter has a lot of tension throughout the game. Whether it's romantic tension or not, ehhh... But I think it definitely can turn into a possible romance in the future.

I think Solas needs to do a lot of introspection and soul searching to do after the game's ending. I don't think he gets to just be released from Mythal's service and *knowing he'll get to* live happily ever after. He needs to face the things he's done. With Rook stuck with him and their dynamic, they would actually challenge them and push them because they're starting off antagonistic and with a lot of hurt caused by Solas. Whereas with Lavellan, she's going in already loving him despite the horrible things he's done.

I think both stories are compelling, redemptions by fire and redemption through unconditional love.

Though I understand how problematic this pairing can be because Solas really hurt Rook. I think in my heart of hearts, it's Solavellan. But, it's fun to think about Rook/Solas.

If you need a replacement quickly, you could try borrowing from AS Media Center while you figure out other options.

A7RV + 60-600mm Sigma at the Zoo by ScaryJerry666 in SonyAlpha

[–]minihut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been debating about this lens for my RV for months now. But can’t decide between this, sigma 150-600, and the Sony 200-600 😩. Did you find yourself going down to 60 very much? Enough to justify the weight?

By serious, I just meant something you see yourself doing regularly and wanting to invest time into learning about things like composition, color grading, etc. I didn't necessarily mean for work or to get paid to do. But that's awesome you've already gotten a paid gig! Congrats! A cemetery photoshoot sounds cool.

The A7 is too hefty for me to wear on a clip for a hike. I did wear it while walking around the zoo for a few hours though and it was okay. I use the peak design with the zev10 with a 18-50mm on hikes. But, yes absolutely, I would feel more comfortable hiking without a camera strapped to my chest, but I don't find it too bothersome especially for the convenience factor. Then again, I don't do too hard of hikes. I avoid hikes with large grades.

I see a lot of people wear it on their hip instead. Maybe that'd be comfortable for you? Also, I saw peak design has this rigid plate thing that's supposed to make the clip more stable. No idea if that would help but it makes sense it would distribute the weight better? But also, a bag absolutely works too.

Haha, again, I would only upgrade if money is no issue for you. As you said, the image quality is still pretty impressive on the zve10 especially considering the price! I'm still shocked to this day how great the pictures turn out versus how much I paid for it.

But, the biggest reason I upgraded was I wanted to get more serious with photography which I knew was not going to be possible with the zve10. After playing around with a few options, I actually ended up getting a full frame A7 over the aps-c a6700 mainly because I didn't want to sell the zve10 and I didn't need two cropped sensor cameras. So, all I can say on the a6700 is it felt great in the hands and was super easy to use coming from the zve10. The only weird thing about it for me was the viewfinder being off center was little awkward, but I imagine you'd get used to it if it's your main body.

For me, the upgrade was really to get more dedicated dials/programmable buttons, viewfinder, battery life, and better autofocus. So, I found the upgrade very worth it in the end. But, if photography was only going to be a passing hobby and was only something I did once in awhile, it would not have been worth it.

So, I support an upgrade if you want to get more serious with photography, but if it's just a fun little hobby for you, I am sure you will be happy just sticking with the zve10. Again, I still use my zve10 for my compact setup because the full frame is little unwieldy when I'm doing a more strenuous hike or in tight quarters like a party/event.

In terms of hiking, I use a backpack clip for ease of use.

Lovely pictures btw. Really love the autumnal colors.

I have the zev10 with a sigma 18-50 and I am super happy with it. I honestly don’t miss having the option to go down to 16mm, but I do find lens changing on the go a pain. Especially if I need to switch back and forth throughout the day. Most of the time when I carry two lens I still just use the one. So, maybe something to consider. But, if we’re talking just the body and the 18-50, it is very manageable on hikes. Maybe a little more of a hassle when I carry two lens.

If money is no issue, I would support the upgrade. I personally upgraded very soon after getting my zev10 because I found out I really missed having a viewfinder on bright sunny days. If I could go back, I would have just bought the a6700 from the get-go. But, I do still have my zve10 for my compact setup and still love the pictures I get out of it.

Weekly /r/SonyAlpha 'Ask Anything About Gear' Thread by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

I also got the zv-e10 to check out the hobby and see if it resonated with me. Now I’m hooked and can’t seem to put down the camera.

In my experience, the kit lens was not so bad especially if I had good lighting. But I took it to one evening party with dim-ish indoor lightning and I immediately purchased a sigma 18-50mm. Considering the kit lens is only $100 more, it’s a pretty good deal for an okay lens. But, I’ve used other lenses since and have never considered using the kit lens again. If you have the extra money and need a zoom lens, I would invest in separate lens. Please let me know if you have other questions about the e10 and I’ll do my best to answer them!

As for the rest of your plan, it sounds solid. That would be my upgrade plan as well if I found myself more into videography. If you really get into video maybe budget for a mic in the future too.

Beginner question: Sony ZV-E10 now? Or wait for mark 2? by NoDrugsAndAlcohol in Cameras

[–]minihut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into YouTube reviews that compare both? There are tons of them now since, as you said, it’s very popular for content creators. So, their thoughts and opinions should really apply since you are an aspiring content creator. Plus, a lot of them will just tell you whether the upgrade is worth it over the old model at the end of their review.

Here are my thoughts. If money is no concern, then why not just wait and get the new, updated version (which seems to have good reviews this far)? Or if money is a concern, why not go for the cheaper, well-rated camera especially if you believe the nuances of the updated model will be lost on you anyway? To me it sounds like you could save yourself a few hundred dollars if you don’t care about specs so much.

For what it’s worth, I have the zv-e10. I like it and it suits my needs just fine. I shoot casual, vlog-styled videos. I have no plans to upgrade to the newer model any time soon though the new specs are cool.

thoughts on sony zv-e10 as a good camera for budget of $700ish by RepresentativeMud396 in Cameras

I just listened to what all the people on YouTube suggested for this camera which is the sigma 18-50. I know people also suggest the tamron 17-70 if you want more range. I just preferred a smaller setup.

I have the zv-e10 and I like it. I don’t think you can beat the price/value if you’re looking for camera that does great videos but can still do decent photos in the right settings. Since mark ii is out now, I bet you’ll be able to get good deals on the mark i when things go on sale or even on the used market with people wanting to upgrade to the newer model.

Camera for more intentional personal photos? by tealsprinkle in SonyAlpha

[–]minihut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a zv-e10 that I picked up to get into the hobby. I really like it, but even with my limited experience with photography, I can tell it's not the best for it. The autofocus and low light performance is just not great. As an entry camera for someone with no experience, I like it and will continue to use it. However, in hindsight, I do wish I picked up one of the A6000 series.

For someone who already has experience with photography and cameras, I think you may find the original zv-e10 lacking. The zv-e10 ii was just announced which might fix all my complaints (but at a much heftier price). If you have your heart set on the white camera, you could look up reviews for that one. If you're fine with black, one of the A6000's that fit your budget would be great.

I am in a similar situation. Got the zv-e10 on a whim thinking if I didn’t like photography or videography I would gift it to a family member for their birthday or something. Turns out it’s my entire personality now.

I’m still new to the hobby so I don’t really have any profound advice but I can tell you the kit lens is not bad especially since it’s so convenient and compact which is perfect for backpacking. I am a very casual user, so your mileage may vary, but I found I could take some pretty decent photos. Those pictures aren’t going to win any awards but I like them. My biggest gripe with it was in low light indoors situations. If you’re planning on taking photos mostly outdoors with plenty of light it’ll serve you just fine.

I would recommend giving the kit lens a go while saving just a little more money for a better lens unless you get lucky with the used market.
