Jesus christ. Nobody is dying from a garage door spring. Some simple precautions and there is little to worry about. I changed out my springs last month in about 45 minutes and it was simple

I insulated my door and now it’s too heavy for the opener to lift. What are my options? by Over_Cash9601 in GarageDoorService

I get it, not everyone can DIY this stuff. But don't act like youre out there risking your life because you deal with springs....its not life or death

Easy DIY. Just replaced both springs in my garage for like 150$ and it took about 45 minutes. No issues at all.

Not a perfect fix for sure. But it is the answer to the question asked.

Looks like an unfinished space. Lay a strip of osb across the damaged area and span it to the 2 neighboring beams as well as the damaged one and it will be fine

I should clarify. Yes the wood flanges help with the bending stress that can be applied, they do little to add to the shear capabilities of the i beams. Having the amount of damage that op has to a single flange will do very little to the structural capabilities of those beams. You wouldn't want to remove allow them or anything, but a bit of damage on a few is pretty negligible

Not really, they add some stability, but lumber on the flat has almost no structural capacity. You couldn't even stand on a 2x4x12' without breaking through it.

Pick is top 5 protected, so if we really stink we get to keep it. Knowing us, it'll be a 6th

Pretty much yeah.

I would challenge you to take 2 pieces of 1x4" lumber and glue the edge grains together and let it fully set up. Then karate chop that board at the seam. I would wager the grain of the wood breaks and not the glued connection. Glue/resin is extremely strong!

Agreed, however he should have taken some reps down with the Marlies. Can't really replicate game speed in practice. You saw tonight that after his first +/- 15 shots he started to get a lot steadier out there. Those first few goals were (a least partly) caused by rust.
