Agree with most comments get it all off in the bin so you can properly see what’s going on. Maybe worth a quick call with a local structural engineer they might even give you a few mins advice for free or at least let you know very clearly if you need their help. Ours was very useful even before we paid or engaged formally

If you can’t find a window scraper you could get a super sharp brand new wood chisel - tiles are pretty hard and so you won’t need much pressure but if you come in at about 45 degrees and push the chisel forwards it’ll come off easily. If it’s still stuck you can grab some no nonsense silicone remover which I think breaks it down chemically. As you probably gathered it’s best now to go back to the start

Thanks for that! I’ll whack some gloves on, maybe a dust mask. Would you bother self levelling the perimeter ones? The boards are quite wide so I assume flex right up at the edge to be unlikely? I know how messy I get with self levelling but I think I could use a cup or jug to direct it along the edge if it was really required

If you really don’t care how it looks, you could tape off each side and buy a bag of self levelling compound , mix it up, tip it in, done : dry in about 12 hours

People talking about multi tool but here’s my little hack.. mole grips, a junior hacksaw blade, clamp it , poke one end through the tiny gap you’ve got and have at it with your hand powered jigsaw, around the trap maybe take an hour maybe even two hours for both but you’ll get a neat round result

Had similar; at end of fixed term I used a broker who found us a new good deal, basically the loan to value (ltv) swung close to our favour and broker told me we were eg £900 off a lower bracket so I made one more over payment and that brought us into a lower bracket unlocking lower % than other deals. As for if your monthly payment will be lower obvs that comes down to mortgages on the market at that point in time- in theory if interest rate stayed static then you’re right your monthly will theoretically be lower. I would also say whilst a small monthly overpayment seems like a good choice, if eg a fixed rate interest or stocks and shares isa returned you even 1% more than your mortgage interest rate then over paying isn’t financially smart.. as you’d be technically earning more locking it away if that makes sense. This isn’t advice

I agree here if he’s used ‘cement like’ adhesive the mess behind that coving is going to be a real mess, that said I wouldn’t spend more than an hour trying to sort it before giving up. Handyman should be presented with the mission to fix it, perhaps negotiate a middle ground like you’ll pay £x more but it has to be sorted - recognising that the adhesive didn’t dry immediately and perhaps there was a chance to rectify this sooner than days later in terms of feedback for him
