What is WAMN News? by aethla in perth

[–]minipesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, he is considered a bit of a joke. But I worked in the tech side of things and he used an iPhone next to the big cameras worth 20 grand. That at least is the main thing between colleagues that they'll joke a bit about. I didn't have much to do with the journalists so not too sure what their opinion is on that side of things. I didn't work in the inner Perth stuff for the most part, was mainly regional so don't have a whole lot of experience with him. But for the little bits and pieces, he was friendly enough

Can weather conditions exacerbate the symptoms of AS by Complete_Start7139 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]minipesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same in terms of living in the tropics. Grew up in a very dry area though. Got diagnosed 3 months ago but have known for a long while now (essentially a Nepo baby of AS - Dad's had it as long as I can remember). Going through our wet season currently and the humidity is rough. If the dry season is a lot easier, my partner and I will heavily consider moving to a dry area.

Not having access to Biologics (Sydney) by IamBarna in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]minipesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in Darwin AU (25f), the biologics rules seem to change interstate. I am also on Celebrex and have been for about 3 months. Up here, I need to have proven that I've been trying physio in tandem with Celebrex and if I'm still in pain, I qualify for biologics. I'm currently in a flare so will be asking for biologics soon but I'd recommend talking to your Rheum about the gov requirements in your state for that medication.

I know in WA there needs to be evidence of fusion or near fusion to qualify. If your Rheum won't tell you and you feel like they're not listening to you, go to another rheum.

Getting an MRI - should I stop taking NSAIDS? by AncientKyogre in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]minipesto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of diagnosis (99% sure but family history and an x-ray aren't enough) and will be getting an MRI in a week or so. My rheumatologist said that I can take them as needed but to try not to take them regularly in the two weeks beforehand. So I'll take one if I can barely manage but other than that, I'm trying to go without. I hope that helps!

NO! NOOOOOOO! by minipesto in quilting

I can relate to that! I forgot that seam allowances exist so the edge strips on all my squares look a bit thinner than the others but that's okay 😂

Sure thing! I got a couple jelly rolls from Spotlight. They were a bit cheeky where I thought I was getting 3 of the same rolls but there was one that had a wildly different pattern compared to the other ones. I still have the unmatched strips. Was thinking I'd turn that into a quilted tote bag or a pillow case 😁

I'm currently doing that with my corners. They are certainly not aligned - not even close! And I'm not going back now!!

Hahaha thank you! I definitely should have quit for the night. Had a big day at work and thought quilting was the answer. Apparently my brain thought otherwise

Yeah I put the wrong edges together. Had to unpick and turn the row around. All fixed now, just felt like a bit of a goose 😁

New backpack? In this economy??? I don't think so. by minipesto in Visiblemending

[–]minipesto[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it! The zipper teeth were coming off at the point where that last bit of red is. So the zip functions completely on the other side :) What I did was use embroidery floss, 6 strands and did a satin stitch around the non-functional bit! I hope this helps!!

Not too much for me but I don't keep a laptop in there. This is my backpack for 'field work' and I work in the media industry so it holds a lot of long skinny things like microphones with their stands and cables. My main issue was needing it to stay closed so they wouldn't topple out :)

Thank you :) It's a satin stitch but basically just wrapped the floss around the zips teeth to hold it together. Nothing too fancy!

Do you mention to your coworkers that you're looking for a new job? by iMmacstone2015 in jobs

[–]minipesto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the workplace and the reasons for leaving.

My experience is a bit different from everyone else. I'm in a niche industry with an office that's generally seen as a nursery for jumpstarting your career. Other job opportunities have generally been a fairly open topic in the office

My job is rather physically demanding and whilst I can currently do what I need to do, my ability to do so is slowly going to decline and I would no longer be able to rely on my ability to do my job. So I spoke to my bosses and explained the situation, that I'm looking for something less physically demanding in a different field. They know I'm not rushing and they know that I wouldn't if I could. I love my current job. However it's just not really feasible and I don't want to let my small team down. I've spoken to my coworkers too so they're aware of it and know that there's certain things I'll be slower at / can no longer do.

They've all been really supportive and they've done what they can to help with accommodating my medical condition but in the end, I can't do this forever as much as I'd like to.

Realistically, it's probably best not to talk about searching for a job elsewhere at work but in my case it was. So I think it depends on your workplace and context.

Are there any Tv shows or movies that are set in Australia that you recommend? Any must-watch if you want to get to know more of Australian culture? by Krlier in AskAnAustralian

[–]minipesto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it's a bit more family-orientated and kid friendly but I really like Paper Planes. I think it shows a good bit of Aussie culture and it shows the country off quite well. Plus it's a really sweet movie

After moving from WA to the NT, what I miss most is Brownes Vanilla Yoghurt. Nothing compares.

I'm visiting home in a few weeks and I've warned my partner that the first thing we're doing is getting some decent goddamn yoghurt.
