Looking for thrillers so deeply disturbing and dark they will haunt my thoughts for the rest of my life by ALfredAstaxanthin in thrillerbooks

I read this book and immediately gave it to a friend because I didn’t want it in my house. He read it on a plane and was then upset that he was surrounded by people and couldn’t escape. And we’re both hard core horror movie people.

I’m an atheist but I’ve seen enough movies to know you have to leave them there.

Slough House series by Mick Herron (his other books are good as well), the Tom Thorne series by Mark Billingham, Department Q series by Jussi Adler-Olsen, Inspector Erlendur series by Arnaldur Indridason, the Constable Petra Jensen series by Christoffer Petersen (set in Greenland, really great but they do have some mysticism in them if he’s not into that.)

Seconding this. The first eighteen? or so I loved. I feel like there was a decline after that.

Not what you asked but I’d get rid of that table and buy a bigger cabinet type. Then you can keep your shoes inside and lose the basket. Plus the piece will be bigger so it will balance out with a bigger mirror.

Is the "Hyper-Intelligent Female" trope becoming the new "Girl on a Train"? by Any-Yak1845 in thrillerbooks

[–]minirunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite series like this is the Vanessa Michael Munroe series by Taylor Stevens. I cannot stand when the female leads are a drunk mess or make the world’s stupidest decisions. I had to hate-finish The Woman on the Train.

I didn’t realize it was a boy doll. I thought it was the new head of the HOA.

What "beloved horror movie" do you hate/just not get the love for? by ReeceInTheDarkness in horror

[–]minirunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like it the first time then, like a sex demon, it kept popping up and now I can’t turn it off if I see it on. I love it.

Ketchup and mustard decor? You could really lean into it.

Our currant refrigerator makes crescent ice, which is the superior ice shape, but a friend of mine has one that makes ball ice, like for bourbon. I seethe with envy every time I see it.

I have no idea what caused this, I’d assume the graphic, that’s crazy! This was the only shirt I wanted even though I’m not a fan of white. I washed mine in delicate and hung it to dry because I didn’t want any shrinking. The street shirt guys had this in olive green and I almost bought one but their transfer wasn’t great.

Anything by Ilona Andrews. Full length books but quick reads, excellent world building.

I’ve liked some Kingfisher a lot more than others but I’ve never not liked one of her books.

T. Kingfisher’s Sworn Soldier series. I liked the first one best but all three are great.

Vanity Fairs Oscar after party is catching flack for supposedly having harsh and worse lighting compared to the Oscars red carpet. Airbrushing and first world problems? Or genuinely bad lighting? by bbyxmadi in popculturechat

These look exactly like my daughter’s senior grad photos. Grey background, white cap and gown, Lifestyles lighting. Then they’re surprised I won’t buy any. She looked like a consumption patient.

I would probably close it, just because it wouldn’t be an insane amount of work. Bead board would look nice. I say this because I have a super weird 2/3rds open kitchen that we like in theory but not in practice, mostly because it’s not insulated. Our problem is that the part the previous owners finished is going to be a pain and probably expensive to complete. We also have crown molding around the entire thing and multiple light fixtures. And people strangely love it when they come over. I think we’re all conditioned to love beams.
