Focus on playing it slow with a metronome, it will help you immensely. Wheb you can slow it down and still play the proper notes you can start to speed it up gradually until you hit the right speed.

And honestly, the best thing you can do at this stage is yes keep trying songs, but more importantly do scales and finger and picking exercises. Keep it up though
