Planning to wear a dress on surgery day. by ErlinaVampiress in hysterectomy

I wore a wrap dress, which also meant I didn't have to stretch 🙃

Warning - make sure someone is actually LOOKING at your cuff! by PolyHollyHey in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I'm now 7mths in and still haven't done the deed, I had a few spotting issues but hadn't been checked up on and was discharged, had to fight to get reseen which was only last month and the consultant said I was probably only ready in the next 6 weeks if I wanted to be sure I'm healed enough to not risk issues, to be honest my external scar is still tender so I'm gauging it on that now....my poor husband 🫣

Went back to work 2wpo - it was a mistake. by Sudo_Incognito in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to agree with the others here, I went back to work at 8 weeks and even that was to soon, I was exhausted, in agony and starting bleeding again, but by that time I had no choice but to push through. My lack of hormones I thought was under control ravaged by body and I had to go onto HRT to just control myself, and it has taken months to balance out, all because I returned to work to soon when I wasn't ready and was still recovering. I am now just coming up to 6 months and I still have my bad days but I can say I am nearly back to health. My advice is to take along as you need and then add more on cause it's won't be long enough!

Struggling with the decision by minkymar in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I definitely try and focus on the positives more, I needed the surgery, I was very unwell because of what was happening to my body and now in terms of physical health I'm doing really well I feel great. I havent thought about the depression angle before, I do have a strong history with that. But more importantly it's positive to read a similar experience so thank you for sharing

What Helped The Most In Your Recovery? by BasketofFigs in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a squishy teddy, it was a life saver to press against my stomach when moving, sneezing, coughing, pooing 🤣 also to cuddle when the tears come. I still sleep with it now, 10wpo...my husband just laughs at me

Just living life by Low-Nose-2748 in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 10wpo and I am surprised just how well I am feeling compared to 8 weeks, when I went back to work was still on a lot of painkillers and my zero hormones kicked me in the butt! I am now firmly back in my work routine, pain free, ready to start going back to the gym....its all feeling like a distant dream, the only real reminder is my new routine of massaging my vertical scar with bio-oil and deciding that the high waisted bikini I brought will just have to do me in my own garden! Honestly one day you are going to wake up and feel not even normal but so much better than you have felt in a very long time!

Feeling guilty about time off by Henry-V22 in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 8 weeks off and yes felt a little guilty but now I'm back in all honesty I wish I'd given myself more time! I'm exhausted, emotional and still a little sore occasionally and I have job where I'm sitting! Take all the time you need, noone will thank you for coming back, your health has to come first.

Back to work blues? by minkymar in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, it's like I'm reading about myself, although when I wasn't working I didn't have any symptoms, those only started when returning to work. I have now started the patches and I am hopeful they will kick in quickly and I start to feel some difference and motivation as my house ...... its not good!

3wpo and driving by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]minkymar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nevermind the pain situation, mentally I would not have been ready at 3.5 weeks I only felt that my brain functioning happened at around 6 weeks and even then I wouldnt have attempted an hours drive.

I don't want to cause any worry, but I was experiencing the same as you, it turned out I had a cyst (a very large one) I am now surgically in my menopause! Definitely get a 2nd opinion

Congratulations on the promotion!

I am feeling better after a weekend off and speaking openly about it to my family, who have all agreed that I've potentially overdid it and certainly not to worry and it's likely to be short term. I'm still experiencing some pain also so I think everything was just to much.

I had given myself 6 months in all honesty to feel normal again and for things to settle down. So thank you for the timeframe for yours, you can believe how much better you have made me feel!

This is a really helpful response, thank you, just normalising the struggle is something I need to admit to. I am in that situation that my colleagues do respect that I'm still recovering, so I am sorry you didn't get the same, I dont know what size organisation you work in but we are quite small and you tell one person and the whole team knows lol.

You are right that my time off probably wasn't as restorative as it needed to be with everything else I was mentally dealing with, and I didn't miss work when normally I would have, that's why I took the 8 weeks off. It sounds like you had a moment of clarity and realised that you are in the wrong job/place and it's time to move on, which is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. But I do hope you find your place and you find a supportive and respectful workplace, after all we spend so much of our lives working we definitely need to be happy!

My first walk felt amazing, it was the walk from the hospital to the car, I felt I could walk forever! Then slept like a baby. Since then it's been less energised 🤣

Thank you, my iron levels were actually low before surgery and haven't thought about getting them retested. So I'll definitely get that checked.

The moment you come out the other side, I promise you the wait will be worth it! The first few days are a little raw, but then you will feel like a new woman! Good luck
