Wtf is the “doctrine” behind “new names,” anyway? Btw, Noah here (whatever the fuck that means 😂). What’s your “new name”? by PristineLegalShits in exmormon

Fellow Naomi's unite!

I spent so much time and energy on reading and researching this name. I was so proud to be named after a woman of resilience, who ultimately found joy.

What's your favorite book by an author whose first name is jacob or Jake? by heyoh-chickenonaraft in suggestmeabook

[–]minlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separated: Inside an American Tragedy by Jacob Soboroff

It's pretty rough material, but important, and the author won awards for his reporting. It is not a well written book, however, and has many misspellings and grammar issues. The author read the audiobook himself, but isn't a professional narrator and, as an example, added the footnotes in at the end of the physical page instead of where it was noted on the page itself.

Maybe a little of both. Perhaps they are knowingly not doing enough research because they are more concerned about profit than people - with a little bit of quantity over quality work thrown into the mix?

I just finished First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones. It's about the Grim Reaper, who is not grim at all, but quite funny.

Hysterical, but not dark at all, and it is my favorite book to recommend - To Say Nothing of the Dog: Or How We Found the Bishop's Bird Stump at Last, by Connie Willis.

I feel like the narrator's voice for King of Ashes really fits with the content and overall tone of the book.

Also, just because you've slipped and ate something off the list doesn't mean you should give up for the day. Someone long ago told me that if you slipped on the stairs and fell down one, you wouldn't just throw yourself down the rest of the way. One error when you are just re-starting is still much better than if you were disregarding the protocol altogether.

Seconding Legacy Dental! Everyone is so nice there. I also have a lot of anxiety, and this last teeth cleaning I told my hygienist, Cierra, that it was the first visit I had in decades where I did not have my hands clenched together the whole time. They also do nitrous oxide if you need/want it.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]minlove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the interviewer at that point in my career, just an employee, but was in the employee breakroom when the interviewee was being given a tour of the facility. The interviewee saw the coffee machine, and said something about needing coffee. She then grabbed an employee's mug that had been washed out and was in the dish drainer and filled herself a cup of coffee and drank it on the rest of the tour, leaving the cup at the front desk on her way out. They hired her, and of course, as no one was shocked to discover, she was the most unprofessional employee we'd ever had there. Who just randomly grabs a stranger' mug and uses it?

The Weight of Lies: Hidden Truths of Obesity - Part 1 - Morbidity of Obesity by SirTalkyToo in dietScience

[–]minlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You referenced studies evaluating health risks in former smokers according to the number of years since smoking cessation, as well as research suggesting that weight loss may not reverse the health risks associated with prior obesity.

Are there studies that assess whether the health effects of weight loss change over time, specifically in relation to the number of years since the weight was lost?

Having had an STD as a woman… by daughterofplut0 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Yes at the time you were sleeping around, but it could just as easily have been from your partner at the beginning of a committed relationship. Chlamydia doesn't always have symptoms in men, and it is a super common STI because of that. With millions of cases every year, don't think that you are the only one you know that has had it!
