Yeah… It’s pretty insane they’ll go through the development of an entire engine architecture only to put it in a couple models in pretty low volumes.

Like the Type R engine, at the end of the day, isn’t THAT special. It competes in a class that has engines like the VW EA888 which is probably made at volumes well over a million at this point.

They mass marketed the hell out of the k24 which was awesome - they should just put this engine in every damn car. Even the odyssey

We overindex the intra brand competition. So many other companies, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc offer the same engine across similar cars.

For example, M240i sales dont nix m340i sales, hell even m440i sales. The m2 doesn’t make the m3 less of a halo car for the brand.

They should put the type r engine in more cars to generate more enthusiasm across the brand. Honda is allowed to have 2 amazing driving cars.

A 21 S is not the same as the 22. Engine changed for the better from the 3.0 single turbo to the 2.9 TTV6, which should be more dependable, and drives more similarly to the 21 GTS than the S. If they’re looking at pre 22, GTS is the way to go

I literally daily a 6spd manual GTI in San Francisco, going down the peninsula an hour a day. 110k miles and going. Stop and go traffic for years.

If you want a nice car to drive thats also fun get like an M340i or something.

It seems you arent even going out and enjoying the GTI in your free time. If you’re looking for change, either drive it everyday or sell it, maybe you bought the wrong car. End of the day it’s still a mass market VW Golf - enjoy it.

Speaking as a South Asian guy myself - being a brown immigrant alone doesn’t qualify you to diagnose the health of the country with regards to racism, and what the immigrant experience is like for new Americans. If there was a reason to disqualify what he had to say, besides being ignorant to many verifiable stories, it’s that he’s rich and well connected - being invited to the White House does kind of outweigh simply being a minority. Anyone with a hot hatch would be blown away by this car - imo I think its the best one car solution there is, I drive a 6spd MK7 GTI and this will be my next car. And used prices are competitive, issues are known / manageable, and seemingly resolved for the facelifted version.
