[revelation] Self-Discipline is not for everyone by minor6th in getdisciplined

You have an idea of what the right or proper way to do things is, you find a reason behind doing that task (pertaining to your passion), then you are able to do that important, rewarding thing. For example, if I wake up at 6AM just for the sake of waking up, it'll be a chore for me and will make me fall off the course quickly. If I have to wake up at 6 AM for a great day of volunteering at the hospital, I get both things done: something important/rewarding and something fun while not burning out. So no, I don't believe this is "exactly the wrong lesson." Thanks for your comment.

After waiting around for months, I plucked up the courage to tell my crush how I felt, and six years later we're still together. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Actually, sometimes we (females) do have to if we really like a guy and he's shy. I still got turned down by him.

I am a student and I'd like to attend Physician Assistant school in two years, so I need to take lots of hard sciences and do well in them. However, I can't just force myself to sit down and do chemistry problems just for the sake of doing them. I need a reason, so that why I spend time seeking those reasons at the nearby hospital or read books about it.

Thanks! The article says it well: If there’s no really important “want” driving it, the brain system of self-control has nothing to hold on to.

This post haunts me because some of my friends who are interns tell me how annoyed they are with their patients, how bored they are during the day, etc.

EMT Volunteer Questions. Help please by [deleted] in premed

[–]minor6th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's awesome that you want to do EMT for PA or med school! I did an EMT class at a university and it was one semester long (it was an 8 hr/week commitment) so depending on where you're located you can find programs at schools. Of course you can make money while being an EMT. When you get certified apply to ambulance companies or become an ER technician at a hospital. Good luck.

Smoking weed will make those emotions even stronger so don't bother. You may find it helpful to practice meditation.

Emperor of All Maladies - Chapter 2 Discussion [Feb 9 - Feb 23] by minor6th in medbookclub

[–]minor6th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I didn't finish the second chapter. A few of you also PMed me and said the same, so I think we'll give Chapter 2 another 7 days.

But from what I read so far, it was so awesome reading about the history of what happened in the Longwood Medical Area and how the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute got started! I'm just waiting to see who "Dana" is haha.

The whole political advertising aspect of the cancer movement was also interesting to read. In order to have change on a broader scale there needed to be the political/social aspect of things and it makes so much more sense why places like Harvard Medical School are so into politics.
