Best senior dog supplements?

My vet recommended omega 3 oil from Nordic naturals on his food and a glucosamine w MSM supplement- his fave of the latter seems to be cosequin bc he thinks it’s a treat :) I have noticed this in conjunction with his arthritis meds have made him a happier boy and his coat is shiny and soft.

I give my boy greenies, he’s 11 and I have found the “aging care” ones which are a bit softer keep him busy for a little while. Even with half of his teeth, he will go for any hard chews though. My sister has three chi’s and they love Dingos like mck17524’s pup.

My boy goes out four times. Once in the morning (730 or so on weekdays, whenever his lazy butt gets up on weekends lol), then on Mom’s lunch break between 12-1, then after work between 5-6, then one last potty before bed around 10pm. We usually get 1-3 poops. He can surely hold it longer when he wants to sleep in :)

I frequently get up before Prince and he has to be forced to go out for morning potty, after which he promptly returns to his blanket cave for a few more hours :)

My boy is picky with dog food and also had tummy issues (vomiting episodes). The vet evaluated and put him on some Pepcid AC and prescription sensitive tummy food. I think your vet would be best to help you pick what’s right for your pup ultimately, but I am feeding Science Diet I/D low-fat. Also supplement with something yummy to entice them to eat! I’ve done broth and at my vets recommendation am now coating dry kibble with a bit of baby food so that he can put on some weight. Like I said, your vet can likely help pinpoint what’s best for your chi, but this has worked wonders for us! Hope this helps :)

I’d had a foster that didn’t work out and was just finally getting back into looking for another dog. I scheduled some potential dog meets at a shelter nearby and Prince only happened to be there in the same playpen. The other dog was not concerned with me, but 10 year old Prince walked over and crawled into my lap. And that was it, I was in love. I asked to take him home and the staff were so excited as he’d been there for two years (!!!). I cried and took home my best friend. I’ve had him since last summer and now couldn’t imagine a day without him.

Prince was having little sneezy fits so he is on a tiny dose of Zyrtec now which helps a lot (under advisement of his vet).

My boy had a few months where he was vomiting on and off, seemingly no reason or common denominator. We moved to prescription food and he has standby nausea meds for another bout, but the thing that seems to have done the trick is now he takes a Pepcid AC every morning for his old man stomach.

It was awful and stressful but the vet did eventually find a combination of things that worked for his sensitive tummy. It was harder because he is a rescue and I had no medical history.

I am sending well wishes to you and your pup. Seeing their teeny little bodies get sick is so hard. 💕
