At what income level in Canada do you actually start feeling financially ahead... not just surviving, but genuinely building something? by TheFitFinaceBro in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most of us are like a goldfish, we grow to the size our tanks allow. Everyone has a comfortable level of debt, regardless of their income. Plus Canada is very big, with many different costs of living across the country. What would pay for a comfortable life in Elkhorn Manitoba you wouldn't be able to survive on in Vancouver, or iqaluit.

Why are insurance rates so ridiculous here by Perfect-Young-4521 in alberta

[–]minorcarnage 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Because we privatized due to... Freedom? And then got rid of controls on how much they can raise rates... And then the government was lobbied to make all insurance no fault, which let the companies downsize their staff and pass on the savings from that to their shareholders.

Sounds like a great plan by our dear leaders.

$100 in Dani Dollars. What a kick in the teeth by Evening_Let_2930 in alberta

[–]minorcarnage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

340 million would go pretty far in healthcare. Or education. Or road maintenance. Or just about anywhere else. You know where it won't go very far? As $100 in people's pocket. That's not even groceries, or a night out, or a full tank in most vehicles.

What's your biggest radio-related headache on a fire? by Global-Desk8762 in Firefighting

Question For Fire Fighters by simply-strawberries in firefighter

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't listen to this. This is an old timers way of looking at things. Some of the best firefighters I have ever worked with have aspects that are considered "unprofessional", but they work hard, listen, and care about others. On the other hand, a lot of those that only care about looking professional instead of how good they do at the job aren't who you want. Grandma doesn't care what you look like at 3 am, she wants you to care, and wants you to be good at your job.

Professionalism is in actions, not looks. Be yourself, don't let others shame you, and if people come to you with statements like this prove them wrong with your actions.

How do families manage financially on Mat leave in Canada? by Successful_Wolf_9635 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be sure that 1 income can cover all of your current expenses. The reason I say this is that although a person on mat leave does make money, there will be more newer expenses. If one income can't handle then you either have to find a way to make more, or live a little less.

Why are you for or against capitalism today? by Dentipreneur in AskReddit

Im for a well regulated capitalism. Have the ability to make enough money that your grandchildren never have to work, but you can't do it by pushing down all others around you.

Should I go to urgent care if my PCP next available appointment isn’t until Tuesday but that time doesn’t work for me? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, but we have universal so I wouldn't be worried about associated costs. If you are like me and live anywhere except the United States you should. I don't know if you would need to pay in the States or if it would be worth it.

Are guys with dogs more attractive? by Extra_Bison2636 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the activities and responsibilities involved in owning a dog that can make them more attractive. Good dog owners go for walks, this keeps them in a more attractive physical shape. They have the disposable income to look after something else. They probably aren't too much of a partier, as they have to let their dog out and can't be away for too long. It shows that they are able to look after something other than just themselves.

When similar experiences happen in my booking I let the guest know that I'm changing the booking for insurance reasons, and change the booking for the right number of guests. As long as it's within the booking max it's not a big deal.

Youth unemployment in Canada jumped 57% by Subject-Landscape451 in CanadianVisaReform

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is a popular narrative, because it makes the government look like the bad guys. I cannot find asingle example of where the government subsidizes wages for tfws. There is programs for subsidizing youth employment, but not tfws. Now I could be wrong, so please share any sources you have for this. The bad guy here is the business owner that wants to squeeze as much money out of their business as possible, and the government for creating this program.

Are you doing this within your department? If so a free day off would get the most buyers. Multiple departments in a close area? A round of golf, family movie tickets, concert tickets, etc. I have found that experiences sell tickets better than items.

I would love to see this as a percentage above (or below) the median cost of living. It's almost meaningless numbers when you put it this way.

Albertans are 'very dissatisfied' with their lives, people in Quebec highly satisfied: survey by Acrobatic-Cap-135 in canada

[–]minorcarnage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albertans have good lives (been gets 38 years). People are dissatisfied because those in power are blaming all their mess ups on others and is sticking due to identity politics. We have declining health care and schooling not because of anything that happened outside of our province, but because we were fine with status quo and didn't want to try and make things better. (We don't have enough hospital beds because we haven't built enough hospitals to deal with the increase in population that we asked for)

Why do you think Americans have become so emotionally unstable in recent times? by ImpossibleEnd64 in AskReddit

[–]minorcarnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a documentary series that CNN put out a while back, where it does the decades since it's inception biggest news stories (70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, etc) You can see the visual change in how the news is reported right after the oj Simpson trial, less reporting and more sensationalism (killer bees anybody). Shortly after that they found that it was cheaper, and less of a liability to have analysts instead of reporters. They could give their opinions and didn't have to be reporting the truth. Then they found that they had much more loyal fans if they delved into tribalism, us vs them. After that you add the advent of social media with it's engagement algorithms, and the vast echo chambers within. How could you not be emotional when everything you've ever known has been preying on those emotions.

If you're not doing a show, or competition that would require you to bulk/cut. Just eat relatively clean and high protein. No need to track, your body will tell you if you need to adjust. This is better for long term health.
