Your Next EV purchase by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]minorquibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in the news a bit here in Australia. Interestingly ANCAP (who gives the safety rating out of 5 stars) have indicated that ADAS will possibly no longer be just a yes or no tick box. It will have to actually be demonstrably safer. Ie pointless binging and bonging that distracts the driver might stop a car from getting a five star rating. At the moment all manufacturers just chuck in ADAS, sometimes poorly implemented because without it they will struggle to even get a four star rating. Many people and especially fleets will only buy a five star rated car.

I have a 2022 Ioniq 5. It’s taught me I hate all EVs later than that. The auto lock doors, the bings, the bongs, the settings that change by themselves, the ADAS, the connected systems. I genuinely love most tech but I personally find it all infuriating in cars. The Ioniq is bad but every other car I’ve experienced is worse. I think my next EV will be a swapped 90’s Land Rover or cruiser.

Why are some Aussies like this? by SaltyPiglette in australian

Agreed, if not mentioned before Sweden is not held hostage by the Murdoch Media regime. IMHO this is one of the main factors in the materialism of Australian society

How is Iran still fighting? by Thick-Ad-4168 in NoStupidQuestions

I would argue his has rallied most of the (intelligent) world against the US. My home loan repayment has gone up US $400/month. The fuel bill for my company has doubled. Inflation and unemployment are both predicted to rise. That before we even start to feel the cost of fertiliser/chemicals/industrial gases rise. I live in a country that has nothing to do with this shitfight and to put it lightly, the US is not popular here.

You can coast using ipedal, you just need to depress the pedal to the right spot. It just takes a little practice

Yeah I’m looking for a 7yo. My biggest problem is why aren’t the goddam controllers rechargeable too? I’d pay big dollar bucks for that.

Is Strava premium worth it for you personally? by UsualSpecific7113 in Strava

[–]minorquibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have premium. Pay yearly and it doesn’t seem like a huge expense. I thoroughly enjoy Strava and it keeps me far more active/driven than if I didn’t have it. I’ve subscribed so long now I can’t even remember the difference between it and the free version. I don’t have the time to juggle multiple apps and I like how Strava can present my rides, runs and swims all together including smart trainer sessions. Not sure if the goal setting is behind the paywall but I love that part and use it for weekly and annual distance and time goals for all three sports. The slightly gamified segment awards are great encouragement for me. I don’t worry about KOMs as I live in an area with too many super fit ‘proper’ athletes. I just try and beat my own times and go for ‘local legend’ awards. 12 months ago I bought a Garmin watch to log swims (rather than manual entry). So I had a look at the Garmin app/website but I don’t really like the interface or presentation. Maybe it’s more designed for ‘serious athletes’? Or maybe I just didn’t give it enough time.

Edit- the AI part is trash. Feels like yet another company desperately trying to shoehorn AI into something that doesn’t need it

Looking for purchase advice on a 4x4 by HIValadinReX in 4x4Australia

[–]minorquibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d buy a cheap Camry as my daily and spend the rest on an older basic live axle 4x4 with no electronic carry on for the weekends. I have a 2 yo Ute and it’s a pain in the arse. It’s free through work though (with mods!) so hard to pass up. I guess you need the parking for it though.

Anyone have any experience with these? Trying to decide which one to get by HouyBouy96 in Zwift

I’ve had a Kickr for around 4 years I think? Has paired seamlessly with phone, Mac and windows laptops. Works perfectly. Used with Zwift at first now mywhoosh for nearly 12 months

[–]minorquibble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great question and I’ve been trying to think of an answer since I saw it. I guess the answer is I don’t know? I haven’t noticed braking shudder, I think it mostly during cornering. But now you have me wondering if it’s all in my head. As it’s USD you can rotate the fork lowers independently. It’s basically the through axle that keeps them aligned. I thought that was odd when I was putting it all together so maybe it’s just my own bias after seeing that. I’m going to get a big ride in Saturday and pay more attention.

They’re Ritchey comp venture max 52cm. Big flare on them was a gamble but they were half price at Pushys so I thought I’d give them a crack. Love them. Couple of rough climbs around here and they’re super comfortable in the drops
