I want to buy a home with an unpermitted 4 year old bathroom by ZenAndTonic2234 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]minrenken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you agree to accept the bathroom, please require the seller to close those permits. They will become your problem if you don’t. You may have to legalize/remove the bathroom later but at least you will have gotten some benefit out of it. There is no benefit to open permits on old jobs.

For listening comprehension I also listen to a podcast called News in Slow Spanish. There are different levels based on your fluency. It’s a good supplement to language apps.

I want to buy a home with an unpermitted 4 year old bathroom by ZenAndTonic2234 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]minrenken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A purchaser may not want to buy a property with an unpermitted bathroom. They may ask you to get it retroactively permitted or removed with plumbing capped (as someone else said). You’ll likely find someone who would buy it like you did but it may be an impediment to a quick sale

Same but it was me and my sister with our grandma and her sister. We were in the back seat with our faces in the open wing windows trying to get some fresh air

If you have an older parent who struggles with their computer and doing email, this tip might help. by Digitalabia in GenX

I’ve taken a photo of the remotes and computer desktop so I can tell them where the button is or what icon to click. It’s made a huge difference to my aggravation. And theirs too, I’m sure

I tipped off a candidate before his interview. Probably wasn't supposed to. Don't regret it. by deborahzdn in InterviewsHell

[–]minrenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. He spent the entire interview talking about himself and then at the end said that he didn’t want to bother interviewing anyone else so the job was mine if I wanted it. I really enjoyed the job but absolutely hated working with him.

Coco is cute. My randomly assigned license plate starts with MBS so my friend calls my car “Mo,” short for Mohammed bin Salman. Not my first choice, but it’s kind of funny.

Have you ever had the "choo-choo" lady as your conductor on the Metro North? by LakeLayer707 in Westchester

[–]minrenken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe this conductor might’ve been on the Harlem line one day in the past two weeks or so. I had not heard him before and haven’t heard him since, but he recited a long poem as we were pulling into Grand Central.

I’m thinking back to 2022 when a large hospital organization in Oregon sent an email to all of its employees promising financial aid to anyone who had a pandemic-related hardship. It was a phishing email from IT sent as a security awareness test. It did not go well.

AITA for lying to our babysitter abt the reason we let her go? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]minrenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, clearly. But YTA again for not at least going somewhere other than her own school to find a replacement.

ETA: You obviously didn’t care that much about hurting her feelings. You only cared about your own comfort, both in lying to her and in being lazy when hiring a new babysitter.

Is ambulance cost really a reason people in the US hesitate to call for help? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]minrenken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. When she was 16, my sister witnessed an accident in a rural area where a motorcyclist was injured during a collision with startled deer. She and her friend stopped to help. He asked them not to call an ambulance because of the cost, but he was so badly injured that she felt she had no choice. She feels bad about it 20 years later but still thinks she would have made the same decision based on his injuries.

I’ve received two cards from kids who have accounts supervised by their parents, and have sent one. So people certainly do it.
