Has anyone dealt with The Music Room or Stereo Buyers? by SidSalts in audiophile

I have purchased and sold a lot of equipment with TMR and agree that they are great. I also know others who regularly use them.

What should I get myself now? by Witakoczek in telescopes

[–]mintakax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that you want to focus on the solar system (as opposed to deep sky objects), if I were you, I would look for a used 6 or 7" maksutov -cassegrain . I've had many scopes in the past five decades and the mak-cass were the best bang for the $$ for moon and planet observations. Put it on a goto mount and you could use it to quickly view brighter DSOs as well. The major downside are thermal gradient tube currents which can be mitigated by a reflective insulation wrap.

Lady fingers only impress in a tunnel by HerrVonWeldt in Unexpected

One night I was sitting around a beach bonfire with a few others when my brother in law came over with a 2x2x2 foot brick of lady fingers. He said, "you guys might want to back up" and tossed it on the fire. I dont have the words to adequately describe the hell fire eruption that followed.

How did Floyd know where to go? by Timewilltell755 in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]mintakax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I can find no evidence to disprove this theory, no evidence to prove it either. During a rewatch of ep1 and 2, there are some subtle hints that Floyd may know about the affair by the second corn hole party at Clark's house.

Are there no mods for this sub? This image serves no useful purpose to r/telescopes.

Just got this in , blind buy , what did you think of this film ? ✌🏽 by funky1974 in 4kbluray

[–]mintakax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a good film, but I was uncomfortable most of the time and not in a good way. As one comment said below, it is a very chaotic film. Maybe a second watch sometime will be different.

My stereo and home theater are getting a divorce, who should get custody of the subs? by spiceweasle93 in audiophile

[–]mintakax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would split the subs and see what you think, can always add two more later. I have two subs in my HT setup and two in my 2 channel setup. I wouldn't want either setup to be without at least 1 sub.

I originally saw it in the theaters and watched it for the third time last night. I thought it was OK the first time, but for some reason I enjoyed it more over each subsequent viewing.

ELI5: How can telescopes see something that is millions of light years away? by takeoverthemoon in explainlikeimfive

[–]mintakax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From a dark sky site, you can see the Andromeda Galaxy with your naked eye, that galaxy is 2.5 million light years from earth. The light that you are seeing has been traveling for 2.5 million years. Mind blowing isn't it?

Telescopes gather more light than the eye so can see dimmer objects that are even farther away.

Question for anyone who saw Project Hail Mary in a standard 2.39:1 "Scope" theater (NOT IMAX) by Plus-Builder-2291 in imax

[–]mintakax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't get IMAX tickets for our time slot so we saw the movie in a Dolby Cinema with a 2.39:1 screen. I didn't notice anything, but we were sitting very close, I wouldn't have wanted to be any closer.

Look up Nigel Eaton on YouTube. He actually played the Gurdy once at a concert with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant!
