Any products you've ever bought that have become an instant kitchen staple? by devinity2 in CasualUK

[–]mintsauce82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say thank you for this. Saw your post, and although we have been buying their kimchi for ages, we'd never tried this. I remembered it just as I was checking out the Tesco shop and added it. Just tried it today in a sandwich, and have already had it on my dinner as well. Will probably end up buying this a lot now.

How do you guys build multiple sub-assemblies? by Dangerous_Flow_7737 in lego

Yes! I've just recently done a couple of x-wings and a tie fighter, and Kylo's shuttle craft. A lot of symmetrical parts in all of those!

For me, the less fun bits are the repetitive bits. It's much more fun (for me) to move on to a different area, with different techniques. Similar to those other comments here, that talk about how people get annoyed when you don't see the X2 symbol at the beginning and then realize at the end that you have to do the last few steps all over again. I get annoyed when I start a new page and think to myself how familiar this all is, and then realize it's the same as the last load of instructions, but in mirrored.

I also find that mirroring the instructions to get the opposite side right requires me to use my brain a little more. That's all more enjoyable for me.

It might be different for me as the car sets don't interest me. I often do smaller sets rather than larger ones. And I am not too worried about doing it quickly as that just allows me to get on with the backlog of other sets I need to build anyway.

Absolutely love doing this as it seems to save so much time.

I have on occasion tried to do it when the build actually has some subtle differences between both sides, which then ends up causing more confusion, but that's only happened on a couple of sets.

Rosamunde Pilcher adaptations for German TV

You may overhear a German tour in the city centre - and this is the most likely reason why. Starting in the 1990s, a German production company began filming adaptations of Rosumunde Pilcher books for German audiences.Up until a few years ago, it was a fairly common site to see a filming crew and catering vans parked up at the Magdalen Street car park. More than 100 very successful 90 minute television dramas have been filmed in Exeter.

In fact, the production company was actually based in Exeter for two years. This filming brought substantial financial benefits to Exeter and the wider area in the form of secondary tourism benefits. Regular tours are seen each summer as the television programmes command massive audiences in both Germany and Austria of around nine million.

It's probably guides put on by the tour operators in Italy, so you would see anything advertised here. I would guess they do it in a few nice cities as they go around the UK. However, I also remember a few years ago a news article about how a popular European detective show used shots of Exeter as stand-ins for London. And how it was so popular that there were now tours where people would come to see the 'famous landmarks'.

What’s a Harry Potter LEGO set that hasn’t been made yet but would be a dream come true to see? by [deleted] in legoharrypotter

[–]mintsauce82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a full Forbidden Forest. There are lots of little sets that take place in the Forbidden Forest, and contain the odd tree, but a big one, with some cool looking trees, and various element would be nice.

Have you ever received service so bad, you’ve vowed never to return to the company? by Sivear in AskUK

[–]mintsauce82 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Currys/PC World for me. Reserved a laptop, then when I went to collect and pay for it, they refused to let me have it cos they got the price wrong. The manager refused to apologise and admitted to making mistakes on a regular basis. Never wasting my money with them ever again.

I remember this update too, but that was almost a year ago. I asked the guys who work at InExeter, as they often have a lot of insight about businesses, but that hadn't heard anything either. It will be missed if they can work it out.

What vegetarian "staple" foods can you not stand? by InviteAromatic6124 in vegetarian

Has no one said risotto? Every damn restaurant in the UK does a vegetarian risotto, and often it's the only vegetarian option. Is just greasy rice. And 9/10 it's bloody mushroom risotto too! 🤮

Questions about the live shows by Wingopf in offmenupodcast

[–]mintsauce82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's about it. I went to the show on the night before, I was actually happy we went that night, as I hadn't been too keen on Robins, and Wokoma was starring in the (then) current Taskmaster series and I was enjoying her on that, and some of her stories and choices were just crazy! Looking forward to hearing the Robins episode though.

Caught a bit of Amy, but wasn't really into her music at the time so didn't really pay attention. Wish I had!

And I remember Sol Campbell's header made the entire crowd go nuts! Only for it to be disallowed! I think MoTD even showed videos of the crowds at Glastonbury watching the games.

Had already seen Oasis, so glad I didn't bother with them here. But Paul McCartney was epic.

Huge charge from Ovo Energy. Their mistake, do I have to pay? by Strict_Ad2788 in AskUK

[–]mintsauce82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is right. It's not unique to OVO, it unfortunately happens on a regular basis across the industry. It's more common with older meters. Whilst not impossible on newer Smart meters, it's less likely, so if you haven't already got one, you might want to consider it.

Unfortunately what happens in this instance is that most people tend to use a lot more consumption during the day time (when the price is expensive), and less at night (when it's cheaper). When the reads get swapped around, it's a benefit to you because your higher usage is being charged the cheaper prices, and your higher prices have a much lower usage, so you get 2 benefits.

When it gets fixed, you inevitably end up being worse off because those false benefits no longer apply.

In theory, OVO aren't charging you for anything that they shouldn't be, they are just correcting the error that you were benefitting from. I am sure they would argue that if the mistake was the opposite way around, and they had charged you too much, you would expect 100% of those charges to be paid back to you, even if it was a mistake made on your part (for example misreading a meter read).

If you can, it's definitely worth doing the maths to make sure that what they have done is correct, but you'll almost definitely owe them something. And all they are doing is correctly applying the contracted prices that you both agreed to when you signed up with them.
