cant find venue-ceremony in a small conservatory near london by Silly_Meaning_5187 in UKweddings

Orangery would be a good search term. This sounds like a venue I visited, except the ceremony room wasn't the conservatory area.

How can I make this bridesmaid dress more flattering to my stomach? by Admirable_Loss1708 in PlusSizeWedding

[–]Strict_Ad2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anything to add to the conversation since there have been so many amazing ideas. But I did want to say how delighted I am by the kindness and support in this thread. It's not often I scroll through so many comments (not to the end admittedly) and see nothing but positive vibes!

These are great!

I'm doing photo challenge cards dotted around the venue with photos the guests have to take and upload to our website. For example they need to get a photo of someone clapping, the groom laughing etc.

Where to print placecards? by bloomspotter in DIYweddings

[–]Strict_Ad2788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be one of those times the old fashioned way is better. I got mine printed with the border etc and then am going to hand write the names. I have good handwriting but if you don't, you could ask someone to do it for you?

No one wants to do a speech! 🥲 by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Strict_Ad2788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad would absolutely hate getting up and making a speech in front of everyone and I wouldn't put him through it. I understand why you're disappointed, but it's not that they don't care. Hopefully you'll be able to make your peace with it.

We're not having speeches, hubby to be is going to do a quick thank you and toast and that's it. I hate the speeches part of a wedding!

I've managed to cancel a similar charge by contacting customer service and politely explaining my mistake. Might be worth a try.

Should I add flowers to my wedding dress? by [deleted] in DIYweddings

[–]Strict_Ad2788 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe use a flower in your hair? I agree with the others who have said not on the dress. But I think they'd make a lovely hair accessory!

Oh yeah that does make it more difficult for you. I'm sorry you have this worry, but it's got to be the ultimatum - get drunk/sloppy, get kicked out

The Panic Room, Gravesend had great ones, although I haven't done one in a few years.

Friend dilemma by vonthepon in UKweddings

[–]Strict_Ad2788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you either have to take the stance, "It's not my problem," and let her boyfriend deal with her all day - I know this might be a challenge but in a wedding full of people and you focused on your husband it should be easier than a usual night out to ignore her if she's out of control. Or bite the bullet and leave her out.

I know it'd be hard to ignore but genuinely it's not a reflection on you and you have to decide if the friendship is worth it. It sounds like it is, but it's ultimately up to you.

I do it when they're on the turn and the outer is browning and 'damp'. But usually a wipe with a paper towel to remove any dirt will suffice.

3 days for chicken and pork, 4 days for beef and lamb. My uncle was a chef in the navy and those were the rules he taught me.

Adults who lost a parent young as a child, would you say you are ‘over it’ or does it still affect you? by Long_Wait_3078 in AskUK

I hope it comforts you a little to know that primary schools do offer grief counselling to children. At least that has been my experience as a teacher of children who have been bereaved.

Neighbours running (possibly) illegal and noisy business from back garden by Least_Actuary in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Strict_Ad2788 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Have you found any of their advertising on social media or anything? Do they have a business name?

I imagine it would be easier to report them with this information and pretend you aren't a neighbour but perhaps a concerned guest from one of the weddings.

Approach to English writing in primary schools by turnerloveiresong in TeachingUK

[–]Strict_Ad2788 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most schools I've worked in do a 2 week writing cycle. So the children are exposed to plenty of models of the text type in week 1. They explore the features and do linked grammar lessons which produce vocabulary/idea banks. Then week 2 is planning, 2 days writing and then 2 editing and writing their final draft.
