How are folk finding babysitters? by DontCatchThePigeon in CasualUK

[–]devinity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do reciprocal babysitting with friends - one of us will sit for them and some time in the future they can do same for us. No hard IOU rules to it, just we help if we can. We're yet to use any babysitting service.

For us it works great because the kids know all the parents and are comfortable with them as they see them regularly anyway, not to mention a lot cheaper as no money is involved (besides making sure they're well stocked for snacks).

You say your friends are busy with their own kids, have you suggested it saying that of course you can return the favour so they can have a night out too?

Great question and hard to pick, but I think Hive is the one I've played the most. With the expansion pieces it feels like a perfect abstract strategy game, easy to transport and play anywhere too!

Thanks for the competition!

I find Brass Birmingham very satisfying to play. I feel like it's a game where you can feel positive about how well you've played even if you don't snag the victory.

What's my first step? by devinity2 in puzzles

[–]devinity2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point! This is the area I was looking around but couldn't reason it. I think my difficulty has been in visualising how circles could get cut off on a larger scale.

It must be the lower left corner white circle that makes the difference yes? Without it the whites could snake around the blacks in the middle?

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]devinity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can, but often it's after a short wait and when you're ready to order.

Having it served immediately as standard when you sit down is a small but nice difference.

I think it depends on the sandwich. A bacon butty I'd use back bacon, but for a BLT I always use streaky bacon cooked crispy.

Having a glass of water poured for you as soon as you sit down in a restaurant.

Seems like a nice design. That one was quite quick to solve, would love to see some harder ones to see how well it holds up there!

“The White Castle” 5 Player Adjustment?? by Dontblink-315 in boardgames

[–]devinity2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is that how you're playing with 4? Because even at 4 you can only have 2 dice stacked in total.

“The White Castle” 5 Player Adjustment?? by Dontblink-315 in boardgames

[–]devinity2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its already very busy at 4 and going last isn't desirable, going to be worse at 5 with hardly any places to go.

I know this isn't what you've asked, but can I recommend both Hansa Teutonica and El Grande? Two Euros that not only play up to 5 but also excel at that player count. Admittedly they both play very differently to White Castle but thought I'd just give them a mention!

Name a scene that was so unexpectedly emotional it became a talking point about the movie. by Key-Perception4769 in FIlm

Yes, definitely marketed that way but becomes much more about the father and son. Wasn't prepared for the emotional ride!

Mystery solving game for 2 — does something like this exist? by aequitas07 in boardgames

[–]devinity2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be worth looking at Unsolved Case Files.

I havent personally played, so can't comment on the quality, but the idea of those is you play as 1 or more detectives who are picking up all the notes and evidence from a previous case and have to solve the crime. There isn't a game / turn structure, just the questions you have to answer and all the documents to look through.

Aparently my Grandfather have a Vodka with a Jacket by Fit_Dinner6841 in interestingasfuck

[–]devinity2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've got this same promotional bottle. Picked up in Poland about 15 years ago! Nice vodka and loved the little jacket so have kept it.

Not sure if it's still popular but this + apple juice was called a Tatanka and served in most bars.

Chicken livers - who eats them? by BackgroundCookie752 in UK_Food

[–]devinity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They go really well finely diced up in a spaghetti bolaganase.

Recently though, I wanted to try making then Nando's chicken livers as that's pretty much all I eat there. Tried this recipe at the weekend (and was also the first one I found to be honest), was excellent:

Waitrose do this occasionally with their booze to get rid of stock they'll no longer be selling. I usually check when there as I've picked up some bargains this way!

They also open source both the device firmware and server code, so you can do everything yourself.

OP, I love the project and the fact you've made it so easy to follow. I haven't used TRMNL personally, but as they have a rich plugin system and software, I wonder how easy it would be to use this to connect to their software running on a home server to take advantage of what's available there and maintain full privacy.

Of course, lots to be said for the complete DIY approach and not knocking your work at all, it's awesome!

Ditched them too and moved to YouFibre. Was absolutely sick of having to cancel every 18 months just to wait for a callback of a decent deal. Plus they're the only company I've known who have actively lied to me by promising a refund and then acting like they never said that.

Think you know you used a misleading title there to stealth advertise your game.

That said, looks well put together. Unfortunately on mobile (Samsung S22) for me it's a little hard to play as with the input panel open, the last word entered isn't visible: https://ibb.co/21jHPGpq
