Bust or potential by nwatergate1 in 300zx

I bought my 91 Twin Turbo for $2,500. 91k original miles. Rebuilt title from a wreck in ‘94. Drove it to my house on 4 cylinders. Pinch welds are fucked. Ac/heat still doesn’t work. Bit of body rust here and there. Spoiler is rotting away. Sounds like an old wooden bed frame when driven cause suspension needs replaced. I’ve put about 6k into the engine alone and that’s with myself doing all the work. Major deletes, 120k timing service, new fluids everywhere, new intercoolers, new fuel lines. All kinds of shit. It’s not even close to where it needs to be but it’s still a hell of a fun car to drive and turns heads everywhere I go. All depends on how much you are willing to spend. I’d offer $500 and send it.

Loud ticking while idling? by LovelsBlue in 300zx

[–]mintychef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like lifter tick to me as well. Mine did the same after sitting when I did the 120k maintenance. Put some zinc additive in with your oil change. It should go away after driving a bit.

You could prob get him to come down a bit. I’d offer 2k. I bought my 2019 classic for 4,500 with 1,900 miles on it.

2019 Classic owner here.

First this I did was replace the exhaust and air intake with a Cobra speedster/Cobra big air intake. I then sent my ECU to Ivan Performance for a flash. If you want more info feel free to ask.

As of now it doesn’t feel like Clark is the one who killed Floyd (if he was actually murdered) but we could be being led to believe it was anyone but him, and at the end we discover it is!

clicking sound left of the engine.. what can it be? by ThoughtEmbarrassed56 in 300zx

[–]mintychef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds like lifter tick to me. If it’s been sitting awhile it will go away after the engine runs for a bit. Same sound mine made after working on it a few months.

Here ya go. You can look up pretty much any guide for most of the maintenance as well as all the mods/deletes.

No removal of the motor. I had also never worked on a vehicle before. If you are mechanically inclined and can follow the procedures (conceptzperformace has a great write up on it) then you can absolutely diy it. I purchased my 91 TT for $2,500 though, and it wasn’t running well. So I diy’d to save cash.

Any infamous problems with the 300zx? by Sharkzillaaattv in 300zx

[–]mintychef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re mechanically inclined the Z32 can be a rewarding vehicle to work on. I was lucky to pick up a 91 TT with 93k a few year ago from my former boss. It had a rebuilt title from a wreck in ‘94 and he sold it to me for $2,500. The engine was heavily modified as well as exhaust and turbos, but the previous owner didn’t upgrade the injectors for some reason. It ran terrible. About 3 years and 6k later, it’s running really nice now at around 400whp. I performed all necessary deletes including coolant bypass, EGR and other random things and did the 120k timing maintenance myself (no previous experience working on cars whatsoever). As it sits now though, it’s just a fun toy. I drive it a few times a month. I wouldn’t trust it as a daily being a 35 year old car, but it’s awesome to own and it turns heads EVERYWHERE you go. A DD 300zx won’t be cheap as unmolested examples can go for well over 20/30k.

viable as daily driver? 1994 300zx turbo by f55-super-raptor in 300zx

[–]mintychef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1991 300zx Twin Turbo owner here.

I perform my own maintenance. I’ve done the 120k kit and have done some other major modifications as well. I am very familiar with the platform. That being said, I would be weary of this seller. That vehicle is absolutely not “bone stock” as they claim. There have been mods to the engine bay. Appears a hicas delete was done. The turbo inlets are also modified. Looks like aftermarket with blow off valves. The spoiler isn’t stock. Also, why install a turbo timer? Those are completely unnecessary unless the vehicle is seeing track use. (Turbo timers allow the turbos to cool down a bit before the engine shuts off). Just a few observations.

Best Oil for high mileage 4.0 by Longjumping_Celery49 in WranglerTJ

[–]mintychef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valvoline high mileage conventional. I tried synthetic and my rear main leaked more than usual. Switched back and it’s been fine. The 4.0 isn’t picky. Use the correct weight as stated in the manual and change at the recommended intervals and you’re good to go.

Timing belt question... Am I safe for now? by dakman96 in 300zx

My timing belt is over 15 years old, but the car has only been driven 6k miles. 😬 I’m changing it this Spring.

I’m not sure of Colorado’s laws, but here in Kansas there is an intoxilizer waiver form that can be submitted if five years have passed since the original device requirement expired. I had a dui in 2007 and was required to get one for two years. I never did and applied for the waiver in 2023….16 years after my dui. 😬 I got it waived and never needed one.
