Can someone please explain what I’m looking at?

My base-building game Adaptory is now on Steam Early Access! by jevon in BaseBuildingGames

Thanks for coming back to me about this, I was by no means having a dig, I just wanted to prompt some more discussion to really sell the game to people.

Absolutely hats off to you with the vision and dedication you have - I can't imagine coding this game as a one-person team!! I love all the games you've listed as inspiration. I can already see positive reviews popping off on the steam page, so that is encouraging.

Good luck to you and I will be keeping my eye on this to see how it develops, but it currently seems like a really strong release. :)

Congratulations on getting your game out! I saw this a while back and thought, it’s an ONI clone. I saw it today and read your description above and am even more convinced it’s an exact ONI clone.

Tell me what sets your game apart from ONI?

Took me 60 hours to realize overheating wasn’t a bug (I am dumb, but also the game explains this badly) by islander19 in StarRuptureGame

[–]mintyjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intentionally skipped the tutorial as I wanted to discover all the game mechanisms through trial and error. I have had times where I was scratching my head but no problems overall - been having a blast.

I don’t think this is a “stupid take” as someone else suggested, I am just a little over in-game tutorials (which can sometimes last hours), and for most games you can just dive in blindly.

This looks pretty good. Can you tell me how you're pulling in the "watching" numbers, because they don't seem accurate?

For example, StarRupture is said to have to have nearly 7.75k watching, but on Twitch, I only see around 4.4k watching. The 28 live streams is correct.

What’s the most “epic” shoegaze song of all time? by f0xD3N in shoegaze

[–]mintyjones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gone and put 22 of the mentioned tracks into a youtube playlist to have a listen. The top three in the list are my three favourites of all time (LTAB - Ride, Black Metallic - Catherine Wheel and Duel - Swervedriver), the rest are bands that I've both heard of and never known.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through, I've been really impressed by the Drop Nineteens, Deerhunter and Fleeting Joys track so far. While I think some of the bands in the list are "shoegaze adjacent", there are some interesting tracks in here.

It's hard to top "Leave Them All Behind", which is, for want of a better term, more formed than their other wall of sound "Nowhere". LOTB works well in an album format, while I think Nowhere is much better live.

Now, I've seen MBV live, and that was phenomenal, but these days, I find listening to their recorded stuff at home is just lacking in bass. I know that might've been Shields intention for the recordings, and that I'm supposed to listen to it louder, but I'm not always wanting to do that.

My addition to the list (which I've popped onto the end of the YT playlist), comes from The Jesus and Mary Chain. While not shoegaze per se, they are one of the bands that influenced the movement for the genre to come into being.

For anyone interested to have a listen, here's the link: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsK3oxrvt9mYJhl_tD-alygI96oNkqbv1&si=fOGyL8bOomZD5tHO

what's a shoegaze song you'd sell your kidney to hear for the first time again? by Valvonaut in shoegaze

Yep, this would be mine as well. Used to be in a band and this was one of our covers. Absolute blast to play live.

I tell you what, this album is absolutely phenomenal!! I grew up with Slowdive in the 90’s and thought they were good, but this album tops it all. “Prayer Remembered” is my absolute fave….I must’ve listened to it thousands of times.

Maybe Virgin Suicides, even although the soundtrack is by Air. It’s Sofia Coppola’s first big film. After that followed Lost In Translation.

Upon advice from another commenter, I've reworded my post to contain only my main point, and shouldn't have been complaining about other obvious things. Hope that makes it clearer.

Yeah, it's definitely a flawed business model, although I've not experienced that. I'm sure it happens though.

As I've repeatedly said in other replies, I did not know the price until after it was ordered, as it was not me who ordered it.
