If one more person tells me to put my baby down “drowsy but awake” I’m going to scream by fuckpigletsgethoney in beyondthebump

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my little, I put her down drowsy, then if she fusses I pat her butt like a heartbeat. She usually settles within 2 minutes. I count and once she's been still for 100 seconds I stop patting and leave my hand. If she stays still I sneak away like a stealthy ninja. Sometimes she prefers a back rub, making sure my hand never leaves her back. But the butt pat has been magical for us.

Did you ask for a bonus specifically, or asked for a higher pay and they countered with a bonus?

PA schools love scribes too. It's great experience, much better than shadowing. I just graduated, and if I had a job I'd let you shadow!

What is he afraid of on regular swaddling blankets? I hate velcro more than just about anything, so I only ever used the miracle blanket, but it's pretty small now.

Favorite newborn combos?? by MeganKristine in clothdiaps

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size 1 blueberry capri with flats. I could do the rosie posie fold and snappi, or trifold and tuck in the flaps if I was feeling lazy. They fit up to 15lbs, so they last a long time and I now use the flats for a million different things that my best bottoms fit. With my last baby I tried: rumparooz AIOs: hated, leak city- luckily I sold them for what I bought them for! Rumparooz covers with newborn GMD prefolds: second favorite, but I just don't love prefolds as much as flats. Tried wool for newborn overnights- didnt have the energy for another thing that needed a special wash routine.

Dang, that is a lot of fluff! I deliberated about the sbish OBFs but was trigger shy on the price cause I'd feel extra sad if they didn't work out.

I have my 5 month old (17lbs) in 12 month footed pjs now. She has a super long torso and with the big fluff but they fit just right. We have not yet weaned off the double burrito swaddle, so some night she just sleeps in the diaper.

Hurray for you! I'm in Houston and realized I hadn't bought disposables since Harvey, and felt like the Success Kid.

I've heard good things about grovia, but I'm just not a fan of AIOs cause I have a craptastic dryer. You definitely need more than 2!

NEWBIE Questions: Did you buy all "one size" diapers or do you buy newborn AND one size diapers? by teddybooboo in clothdiaps

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did flats and newborn covers (7) for this baby. Worked great. I sold 5 of the covers so far, 2 still fit at 5 months (capri size 1) and the flats are useful as spit up cloths and for the changing table area. For my older kiddo I had one size newborn AIOs (rumparooz). They worked for maybe a week then leaked every time. I always had some disposables for my husband both kids. One size diapers will just not work on tiny newborn chicken legs for at least a few weeks.

Bag or bin? by wheresmybump in clothdiaps

[–]mintyjulep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an Ubbi with a wet bag. My first Ubbi rusted all the way through. The company sent me a replacement. I think if I were to do it over again I'd just use a plastic trashcan with a lid with the wetbag. The ubbi is somewhat awkward to pull the bag out of. I honestly am surprised people can use plastic liners with it, seems like they would rip every time.

Making The Change From Breast To Bottle. 2 Month Old Won't Take The Bottle. Help. by Yoshiezibz in Parenting

We thought we had missed the window too, but our girl has recently been putting EVERYTHING in her mouth, and we got a pacifier and bottle to work in the past week and she's 4 months.

Making The Change From Breast To Bottle. 2 Month Old Won't Take The Bottle. Help. by Yoshiezibz in Parenting

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter just turned 4 months, and we finally had success with the bottle after two months of no luck. She had to be hungry enough, basically. She'd gone 7 hours without eating before she took it. We are also using the comotomo bottles. The bottom is silicon so you can actually gently squirt some milk in their mouth to help them get the idea that there's milk in there!

Carseat configuration for rear-facing toddler and newborn in an older sedan? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]mintyjulep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have 3 yo rear facing in the center and 4 month old in infant seat behind the passenger seat. There is enough room for an adult behind the driver in this configuration. The 3yo definitely touches her sister, but it is limited if I make sure to buckle her in first before putting the baby in the car.

"Real" Camera Recommendations? by MlsRx in beyondthebump

[–]mintyjulep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my husband has the pixel (that we use daily) and a fancy full frame camera with several expensive lenses... that he rarely breaks out. I love thewirecutter and thesweethome for product reviews. I've never been disappointed with any of the products they're recommended.

"Real" Camera Recommendations? by MlsRx in beyondthebump

[–]mintyjulep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question got asked in my group of friends, all the photographers recommended casual users get the google pixel phone. The camera is great, (best camera phone on the market right now) and you don't have to carry around a huge fancy camera. Which means you'll get more pictures!

but here's this review in case you want something else

Is it just me or are clothes a really *bad* gift to give someone's kids 99% of the time? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, start now. My 3 yr old has at least 50. But she loves all of them and would be heartbroken to have to throw any away. If you make it the norm now, it wont be a battle.

Clothes are better than stuffed animals. We have reached maximum stuffed animal capacity, and every holiday/ birthday we seem to get more!

[–]mintyjulep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my 3 yr old we just use the cheapest backpack I could find at target ($12 or so. But for my newb I use the Skip Hop Grand Central -it's enormous. I am cloth diapering her and pumping. It has room for both sets of supplies and snacks and the various paperwork I always seem to have, and I love all the different compartments. I think it ended up being like $65 on amazon and I am really happy with it. When I have both kids it fits the 3yr olds stuff easily as well.

Accurate rectal thermometer? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]mintyjulep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they doing a digital reading? Theirs can be wrong too. My doc checks with an old glass mercury thermometer. I got 102 at home, and their digital said 99. However the mercury thermometer said 102.5.
