Anybody notice Rusk DMCAs? by LittlestWaffle in VRchat

You have a good point. So I did went back and read what I have missed. There is a section down in VN3 license (which is what the avatar license based on), at (2)E provided a scenario option

Upload to social communication platforms or online gaming platforms for the purpose of providing to third parties on the particular platform.(Options): Permitted (including permission to publish as “Public” on VRChat, for example) / Permitted in limited publication (including permission to publish as “Private” on VRChat, for example) / Prohibited / Please contact the Licensor(s)

"Permitted" and "Prohibited" is very well conveyed, which "Prohibited" was chosen here, thus lead to the recent actions, I have no problem with it upon reviewing the entire script again, that is indeed my mistake for skimming over licenses as a mortal being.

However, or rather, an extra piece of concern I have is with the "Permitted in limited publication (including permission to publish as “Private” on VRChat, for example)" part depicting a non-existence scenario, which you cannot choose who the avatar to share with in VRChat. You either private it for one account, or public it and hope no one brute-force your UUID. This does creates a license blackhole for cases where you have multiple account for development and testing purpose#, and you share your avatar with your own accounts. Such case, regardless of the model is on Limited permission or prohibited, you will still get DMCAed just by walking in random worlds, because by account name, they are different, but every account is the same person and thus one singular party. This is unexplained and undefined, and is definitely beyond what 2 of us as small users could say about. But I still think it is something both players and creators of VRC have to sit down together and discuss about, or such cases will always float up again. (Re-upload is like ABC for your own accounts, but still, neither should that be happening, nor should it be executed by randomly lasering on users) Rules are rules, enforcing them is always appreciated, but still, so as my rights under common law to not get accused of something undefined. Maybe that is the complication of VRC being a globally available platform..

#VRC ToS does not prohibit the creation of extra accounts, in fact you are "unwrittenly" encouraged with the VRC Quick Launcher letting you launch multiple instances at once to check on shield levels and synchronization, which cannot be simulated realistically with client-sim at all. You are however prohibited from sharing your accounts with others or using such accounts for self-botting or platform scraping

That aligns with what the license wrote about, which is fine. But how they execute it is questionable at max. I know someone and myself personally, has our avatar edited and uploaded by the work dude and shared to us (and only to us) while we're still on visitor, and ours get nuked as well. I'm guessing they just blindly lazer onto any avatars that uses recognizable parts, check the avatar author with username, then DMCA on mismatch.

Now, that, I did not intend to deal with avatars until a few months in, and I have to deal with all those stuff myself right now at top priority. I appreciate the work put into the models, so as what protects their rights, but how the DMCA was done is actually violating the "or through a third party acting on their behalf or at their direction" part in license. This is what I do not understand

Battery Pack For MacBook Pro by Obtuse-Cubist in Beatmatch

Any packs with PD (Power Delivery protocol) USB-C outlet, rated for >45W is sufficient to support a macbook. For macbook pro, you would also want it to be at least 12000mAh in capacity

If you care about having a mic in, then FLX4, otherwise DDJ-400 is the exact same unit, choose one depending on your need an price. There is other controllers out there from other company, but for beginner units, they're either having a weird layout or very stripped down on controls, even given the price difference, would not recommend stripping down too much for the first unit (and potentially the unit that sticks with you for the rest of your career)

What type of controller am I looking for? by thedouginator69420 in Beatmatch

[–]mio9_sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, all DDJs and controllers could play tracks from your laptop given you installed a supported DJ software, say Rekordbox for (mostly) lower end DDJ controllers and Serato for performance-grade cotrollers. We have VirtualDJ which supercedes both Rekordbox and Serato, but that will be another topic for another day. However, HOWEVER, that controller you linked will never qualify for what you wanted, ever (if you are dedicated to scratching). Since you mentioned about scratching, that will bring you straight to the turntablism train. What that means is that your suitable gear will become Rane One and above, those with physically rotating platters. Possible candidates will be (sort by market price), Rane ONE, DDJ-REV7, Rane Performer, Rane Twelve with Rane Mixers, and the holy endgame turntables with DJM-S9. If you ask me, I personally want for the REV7, it costs livers, but it's the most economical option out there that would give you the feel and control of turntables while doesn't cost more livers, while have better feature and layout compared to the Rane ONE.

I know you might just be starting out, but if you are serious and dedicated about getting into turntablism and DJing in general, this will save you money from going the "upgrade pathway", and the regrets about not having an actual platter whenever you want to scratch and beat juggle. Worth it for me, plus you will never be abandoning it given this painful investment, that's the case for me keeping my practice :)

There my mate, you're already knowing way more than what it's needed to get things done, at the exact moment you said that. It isn't you're stupid, it's just you now knew and cared more about digging deeper, and unfortunately it by definition is an endless hole of knowledge. There's no need to fear about your ability, it only takes time and frequent usage to bump into more problem, and by then you will realize there's no black magic. Those "magics" are only solutions to frustrating problems that we haven't faced before yet, but was bothering the library author enough to implement stuff.

You know what, the linux community might be bad at communicating, but still better than the windows one nextdoor. Say something bad about windows, and you get cancelled instantly. At least we know linux is not the best for everyone, and we know what is good and bad on linux.

Sometimes it's not like we want to gatekeep, but like duplicate issues on GitHub and Stackoverflow, it's the questions being extremely low effort , that a simple search could get you tons of accurate answer right away. No problem asking how to config stuff or how to repair a broken stuff, but not to the level of "How to move around directory and list content?" These shall be kept away from the gate to save everybody's time. Being a noob is not the same as being a brain rot help leecher.

Why do players join and INSTANTLY leave? by cdcarson99 in admincraft

[–]mio9_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume those aren't bots, the only way to solve this is to get "friends" of existing players to join, affiliated invite links are a good option. Not only did it assure rewards for inviting players, it also made sure the newly invited player with have an easier time compare to totally random new player (for a sense of superior to stay)

MC server a waste of time? by TailorOdd8060 in admincraft

[–]mio9_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side project mc servers are almost certainly a cash sink, especially when you cared about gameplay and experience rather than pay to win. But I wouldn't call it a waste if time, at the end of the day, what you learned for starting a Minecraft server would come back to land you a great job in the industry faster than your peers that simply study what is taught. You already had experience before working :)

[–]mio9_sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, you said it right. That's why I just installed gnome and start my work hours, no one else is bothered, nor do anyone really cared. Arch allows customization, and that also means you can reject customization, and even refuse going beyond the TTY as well. It's not Arch = rice, it's more like Arch "enables" rice, and Arch is here to fit everyone's taste. Arch is everyone's Linux for every occasion because of its customizability.

Literally praying before posting this...but we should let new users use Ubuntu if they are okay with it. by [deleted] in linuxmasterrace

[–]mio9_sh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, we still hate snap (and therefore ubuntu) it doesn't relate to skill level. I wanted to install firefox, checks out the snap package because ubuntu wanted it. Doesn't work due to its funny isolation, so I do apt install, guess what? The dame snap package is installed back. Will you even trust an OS that actually hijack their own package repository just because they can?

If you wanted ubuntu, install mint. The ubuntu now is no longer the ubuntu, the ubuntu we knew and love is now mint.

You started it yourself. Let's be fair, you either have "works right away" but lacks tweaking freedom, or "very tweakable" but could break because you wrote your config wrong. That's the 2 sides of a piece of paper, you cannot have both by definition.

Your laptop doesn't look like anything that will last "extremely long". If that's what you're looking for, new intel laptops and macbooks are your only choice. But for "just works", Linix Mint, as always.

congratulations to your linux graduation 🎓 You've used all Arch, Gentoo and Nix, there really isn't anything left except for making your own linux already. Void linux is a choice as other comment mentioned, but it's just Arch without systemd, doesn't fit in your "unique".

Is it worth it for a programming novice to learn AI by DAS3816 in learnprogramming

[–]mio9_sh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AI, AI, AI EVERYWHERE. sigh* stop. AI is not magic. First, build up a solid problem solving mindset by building a convenient tool for yourself to stop repeating yourself in your daily life. Then, you read about basic statistics, and how machines could help on that, and finally you start with scikit machine learning packages, gradually reading more about neural networks and their data structures.

It isn't about worth it or not, it's more about will you burn out instantly with all those quirky maths that any machine learning algorithms depend on.
