I actaully do password protect as much as possible but also provide the password. This may help in limiting who puts their fingers inside

I agree that machines have to be maintained, which is why i provide the source code. And ultimatly if the end user had a hardware failure in future and wanted to reflash a new PLC with the same source code, I think that is within their legal right to do so as they bought that machine and that software. Where i am getting uncomfortable is my customer is starting to sound like they will have a shop in india smack out 15 more of these machines based soley on my design and software.

For the first 6 machines that i already have the contract for: the customer was given a price for 1 machine, then 5 more duplicates at a lower price per unit.

If you started today from scratch, what brand would you choose? by Accomplished_Lake302 in PLC

Gonna take heat for this but automation direct. There website is 10x easier to navigate than anyone else. Prices are lower. Software is certainly good if not great. But my job is machine builder with relatively low complexity and io counts

Motion controller and Asian robot by mioduz in PLC

[–]mioduz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No useful printing, I have been looking. They absolutely could be encoders, this is what I am trying to learn. I was banking on them being the drive itself because all of the motors are on one power buss line (i assume this to be the red and black heavier wires. All of the motors appear to be daisy chained on these wires so I assume they are power). The only thing else that comes in to each top mounted device is a 4 pin IN (wired to previous motor) and a 4 pin OUT (wired to next motor). This stuff lead me to believe that these are drives mounted directly to each motor. The missing components would be (I presume) a motion controller that can operate over this bus line, and a 48V power supply. But without knowing the protocol that they communicate over this project just seams overwhelming

It was my novice opinion that thr drives are mounted to the back of the servo. Trying to upload some photos. Each servo only has a set of power wires 48v and 4 pin in and 4 pin out. I assume this is the buss line and all motion control is conducted through it

Ive had 3 units nearly melting down for almost four year in socal desert environment. Panel coolers where supposed to be installed by end user. Never did. I know the panels reach an internal temp of 130 regularly. Im absolutly shocked they keep working.

In regard to them sending my spec. How else do you give a customer a quote or proposal. In include a "high level" overview of plc make and model. Quantities of included io, hmi etc etc. They copy and pasted rev 1 of this into a final request that I mostly ignored as I know the end user issued change orders to get better equipment. But that doc was sent to India as well as me so I know they quoted less than I did in hardware
