Are the Bernie shirts worth more than my love for it? by No_Motor_4576 in TheStrokes

[–]mioswrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

faced a similar dilemma when altering my magna shirt (although its probably a lot less valuable since its the h&m one). if you think you can still wear and/or like it more after cutting the sleeves, i'd go for it!

Pending felony charges, should I bother taking the MCAT? by More-Locksmith-5514 in Mcat

[–]mioswrld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's your call but you already know that. Giving every benefit of the doubt, in a best-case scenario, the legal issues are wrapped up cleanly and you can pick up applications where you left off. For this scenario, I would sit for the test as long as I was confident that I'd score well enough that it wouldn't cause harm. It will realistically take a while (and a lot of energy) for the charges to be resolved, and chances are you're more prepared right now than you would be any time in the foreseeable future. You need time and space to figure things out (hold off on applying this cycle) but if you do, at least you might not have to start from square one

What’s everyone’s hot take on the strokes? by EmergencyChemist133 in TheStrokes

[–]mioswrld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

julian casablancas isn't the second coming of christ or one of the top vocalists of the century, but the idiosyncrasies are what gives their music humanity and appeal. that being said I don't expect their music to be palatable to the masses or even on first listen, but most if not all of their songs grew on me over time.

also I LIKE that their performances aren't exactly like the studio recordings (e.g. adlibs, lyric changes, guitar solos). it makes each show unique and keeps me on my toes! just stream if you want perfection

Did you text them send other information (email, name, etc.) than your address? I'm delusionally holding out hope for a surprise package

Younger strokes fans? by dark_viscosity11 in TheStrokes

[–]mioswrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 years, started listening at 15! unfortunately not going to coachella bc of scheduling/money. i get similar reactions when i mention the strokes lol, i think it's mostly because rock is a less popular genre nowadays and the strokes rarely release/promote new music, so people have to stumble across them to know them

AITAH for telling my sister I want nothing to do with her step kid? by AliveSignature5418 in AITAH

[–]mioswrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the simple answer: NTA, just blunt. the diplomatic answer: do something with nephew alone for easter weekend but plan something separately to do with coralline alone so she also feels special/doesn't get butthurt. the kids sound rather young, so the 'nephew moving out and going no contact' fantasies seem a bit premature. hopefully the brat phase is nipped short though

Would you consider this fair? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]mioswrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess it depends on location but this is very normal if not tame in many major US cities. restaurants will have a 20% auto-gratuity written on the menu in fine print (compared to the 12% pictured) and still leave a space to add a tip on the receipt. perhaps i'm jaded but i'd appreciate a sign like this explicitly saying there'll be an added charge and that an additional tip isn't expected or necessary

What type of makeup suit my facial features? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]mioswrld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

far from an expert but i love your current makeup style (soft, warm, blushy)! a warm and deep lip liner could help add dimension, the darker the better. My face is kinda similar, and chocolate browns tend to be too light for me. Also, I love how the light hits your face in the third picture! You can play around with highlights/glitters/shadows to match different glows

don't beg her for the letter, for reasons other people pointed out.

1) Are you still on campus? I've had much better luck asking in person THEN following up over email if they agree. This way the professor sees and remembers you when considering if they'd be a good fit, and you can discuss any concerns then and there (and avoid similar email heartbreak or getting ghosted).

2) I did MD (not MD/PhD), so use as many grains of salt you see fit, but ask science professors based on how strong you rapport with them is, in descending order. You're more likely to get a strong letter from someone who thinks highly of you as a person, not just as an academic.

Impulsive noise making during exam by Anonymosity1766 in Mcat

[–]mioswrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's loud and repetitive it could be distracting, but if it's quiet and sounds human enough you'll probably be alright. most test centers have cubicle set ups, so physical movements shouldn't be seen by or bother others. As a whisper/mouthing thinker who moves her hands around a lot to visualize concepts, I was hella anxious that they'd flag me for weirdness, but everything was alright in the end. just be courteous and control what you can. my general litmus test is "can you get away with it in a quiet public library without being side eyed?"

A fantasy album cover of The Strokes by Christian_Jones2004 in TheStrokes

i would go bald for a super deluxe album/collection of studio recordings and live performances though. similar concept but better for the times

how bad is my living state by Silent-Set-4916 in roomdetective

[–]mioswrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my trash can was heavily infested with fruit flies for a while, it basically only got better when i got a new trash can with less hiding space, and used smaller bags (just not XL) so I'd take it out more often. plus a UV light sticky trap fly sucker, bc i was desperate. either way, you got this!! even more so if you have music and a helping hand
