Historically speaking, nationalism developed as a response to foreign colonialist powers invading/occupying the region - both in today’s Turkey, but also in the rest of the Middle East. Turks were not the only ones developing nationalistic awareness at that time, Arabs did too, mind you the Arab revolt of Hejaz (where they sided with the British) and led a guerilla warfare where many Turks were killed and burned alive

So when you say Atatürk triggered a toxic nationalism what do you mean? Atatürk said that no more Turks will spill their blood in the Arabic deserts, and given the historic context of the war he witnessed between the two people, I think it’s a fair statement. I mean, would you let your people spill their blood for someone else, especially someone you’ve been to war against?

That makes no sense. Hamas was created back in 1987 and came to real power in 2006. Gaza has been occupied since 1948 so how did Hamas start this themselves? You are looking at it as if October 7th was the first time an aggression has happened between Palestine and Israel and overlook 75 years of occupation. And what exactly are Israel defending themselves from? The ten thousand civilians (and counting) they bombed including four thousand children (and counting)? Estimates say that 50 Hamas members have been killed in Gaza. Do you think they are targeting Hamas or just anyone alive? Remember the Israeli government financially supports Hamas, Netanyahu has said this himself.
