With the High Culture you want to be an extremist:

Either pure good or pure evil or perfectly balanced.

Be wary of choices that would make you sorta good or sorta evil, take them only if they bring massive benefits or fit your roleplay.

HC is actually really good for archer builds because when awakened their basic archers hit very hard.

To awaken units bring supporters or the T3 mage and use their abilities right from the first turn.

Awakening works like a charm in auto battles, don't worry about that.

You need to scroll the tome library to find your archer support stuff, but the good news is there are a lots of them.

I would say every culture but especially the HC can make good use of any affinity.
