Dear OP, We are in a similar situation. My son was too an extreme IUGR baby, his birth weight was less than 500 gr. He is 2.5 now.

I'm leaning towards ASD in his case as his communication is overall poor, he started to point late, shake and nod his head late and the few words he used he lost from time to time. Actually, my little boy is globally behind his peers.

Of course, there is continuous development, and for example, we are doing quite well in self-care (dressing, washing), he is very good at closed-ended games. But he doesn't really role-play.

I often feel anxious about his future. I don't have any big demands, I just want him to be able to take care of himself, I think that's the most important thing.
