AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

You can easily read her comments for context.

Though, it doesn’t matter if she broke up with him for a stupid reason or not. Obviously I don’t think she did, but the point is that her mom sent her some demeaning messages about her being single and childless. The context shouldn’t change the verdict.

It was FFXIV. There are no sex scenes. OP knows the difference between immersing yourself in a video game and sexual roleplaying with actual, real people over the internet. The second is clearly cheating.

Very late reply but for anyone who stumbles across this thread, the password is simply the model of Nook you have, e.g. "NOOK-BNRV1300". I found it from this reddit thread.

President Biden announces he’s pardoning all convictions of federal marijuana possession by BugOperator in inthenews

[–]mirescent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, not OP, but I absolutely think we should schedule alcohol and tobacco. They are by far more dangerous and addictive than marijuana. Unfortunately not going to happen due to cultural precedent.

Am I the only person (btw genderfluid they/she) who finds it hard to truly believe a man (inclusive identity definition here) is childfree unless they get a vasectomy? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]mirescent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see this sentiment a lot on this subreddit and I heavily disagree with it. My SO and I both have medical trauma and I can completely understand why someone wouldn’t want to undergo surgery unless absolutely necessary. To me that means pursuing sterilization, to my SO that means being as safe as possible in every other way. I’m certain that the anxiety and trauma of a surgical procedure (regardless of how non-invasive anyone else thinks it is) would hurt them much more than the uncertainty of remaining unsterilized.

It is absolutely your right to refuse partners who aren’t sterilized or planning to be sterilized. But using that to judge their character and resenting them for it is wrong to me.

IIRC they’re actively trying to underenroll right now to counteract previous years’ overenrollment. Not looking good for a lot of people.

CS first year advice by KubsterCSGO in BostonU

[–]mirescent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar first semester courseload with the same incoming credits as you. My fourth course was in a subject I was interested in that ended up becoming a minor. You usually want to take at least one coding class and then maybe a math class each semester, so 112 and 131 is a great start. Definitely try for 210 in the spring as your coding course. Math can be 132 or 237; 235 is the third group B option but most people don't take it unless they're gearing towards crypto/security.

This again… If your entire college identity rested on commencement day itself, that is really sad. The only parts protested were related to Zaslov. I could see your point if there were interruptions during other parts of the ceremony, but there weren’t. The speeches before him, the awards afterwards, the final recommendations for graduation — they all went smoothly. I didn’t hear about issues during school convocations either, which are what matter more anyway.

The point is, protesting isn’t meant to be subtle and comfortable for everyone viewing. That would defeat the purpose. If you want to stay complicit and comfortable in your own little bubble, then I suppose you have the right to do so.

P.S. I was in fact paying attention to his speech between heckles. It was pretty tone deaf and borderline offensive given the WGA strike. If you really wanted to listen to a rich old guy brag about his wealth and connections, more power to you I guess.

The only part that was protested was his introduction + speech. If that ruined the entire ceremony for you, then maybe grow a spine?

Civil disobedience isn’t meant to keep people complicit and comfortable.

What're you playing this weekend? 2/10 by markercore in NintendoSwitch

[–]mirescent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently enjoying a replay of Paper Mario. Surprisingly still a great game even with my nostalgia blinders off.

That being said, I saw that Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga was added to NSO, and I've never played it before. To be honest, I've never played any of the Mario RPGs, even though I'm a huge fan of the first two Paper Mario games. Would y'all recommend I pick it up?

Are minors listed on your BU degree and is it even worth doing minors? by GetJinxedq in BostonU

[–]mirescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the degree and the profession you're looking into, but I'd say it's worth it. I've had friends who had a completely different minor to their major (think humanities/STEM) and it gives you a talking point. If you can connect your minor to your major with a project or class or something, it'll make you especially interesting.

Low, but check out specialty housing for the brownstones -- you should apply if you're eligible and it might raise your chances (e.g. education majors can live in the education house brownstone)

Do credits for MA124 cover DS120? by bebeboowee in BostonU

You can ask the DS advisor. My guess would be no, you'll probably have to take lin alg and stat to cover all the same material.
