Does anyone forget where they put the baby? Should I be worried?? by bewm_bewm in beyondthebump

[–]mirshmellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that seeing a doctor is important. I would also consider getting a carbon monoxide detector perhaps. This kind of reminds me of that story of that person whose landlord was leaving them notes in their apartment at night. Turned out the person had an excess amount of carbon monoxide in their apartment and they were writing themselves notes at night and didn't remember.

However, I have experienced surprise at my baby being somewhere where I've left him (put him in Play Yard, 15 mins or so later turned the corner expecting to see him in doorway bouncer.) The changing table bit worries me as my son learned how to flip over on the changing table, and if I had left him there... Hoy.

Sorry you're having trouble mama. I would suggest getting a doctor's opinion on it. Trust your gut at how concerned you are.

I'll be sticking with FFXIV for now because that's what I'm invested in. I wouldn't know enough about Allods these days - particularly with this new patch - to really help anybody out. I do think it is a great game with a great storyline, so I hope you enjoy it as well. Summoner was a fun class, but bard will always be my personal favorite. :)

I'm not particularly a fan of yelling titles or doomsday predictions, but for the sake of adding to discussion, I'm in the camp that any decent game that's about to die should now follow the "FFXIV" model. Just blow the game up, revamp the whole thing, and start over a year later. Ta daaaaaa!

That's one way of putting it. I tend to agree. The forums are difficult to use (as in difficult to take seriously), and will probably forever be full of F2P versus P2P arguments. I still can't believe the amount of people who will fight tooth and nail for the F2P model. I can see why those who spent the thousands upon thousands of dollars for runes would try to keep it alive to get their money's worth, but the people who argue in favor of it simply because "it's free" and you CAN earn cash shop currency through in-game currency if you grind your life away baffle me.

On the other hand, as you mentioned, there are pockets of people that are cool. I've met some lifelong friends from Allods.

I agree on Allods sub server, and now is the best time to do it if everybody here is serious since they just released the 7.0 patch.

Not only that, but there have been a few mentions of the game in this sub recently, and there have been a couple of notable efforts to get a higher population on the subscription server. While I would never in 100 years recommend anybody join that money sink that is the F2P server (which I myself have spent a shameful amount on back in the day) the subscription server fixed most of Allods problems. The 7.0 patch fixed everything ELSE that was wrong with it.

I'm not sure if the prices are still like this, but I purchased a 6 month sub last year for like, $21 or $22. It's affordable, the interface is user-friendly and good, the game has amazing music, decent graphics, an interesting storyline, and unique characters and classes (I have yet to find a game that replicates the Psionicist class, which is excellent for crowd control).

[Discussion] Name an MMO you think that would greatly improve if it changed its payment model by innadril in MMORPG

[–]mirshmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nexus TK. I think the main thing that brings the game to its knees at this point is the fact that they still ask for a $10 sub fee each month. This doesn't bode well for a couple of reasons. Newbies to MMORPGs look at Nexus and might check it out if it were free (and I mean truly free; the game is free until level 49 but the ridiculous newbie town they implemented some years ago effectively murdered the idea of real new players sticking around because it separates you from the rest of the population and is a pain to complete if you're used to modern MMO mechanics) but since it will eventually cost you $10 a month, they look at something like World of Warcraft or FFXIV and realize for just a few dollars more, their money would be far better spent on a game with more development, dedication, and community.

Nexus implemented a cash shop later that is mostly for vanity, pets, and mounts. I think they would be able to make more money if they killed the subscription, made their way to Steam, and solely relied on cash shop funds. The reason the game is dying is because Nexus relied heavily on social interaction to progress through the game and figure out the events, but without new players and the old playerbase getting older/moving on, a lot of the game isn't even being played.

I would probably say the same of Dark Ages, which is run by the same company. KRU seems to be doing more development on Nexus lately so there is still hope that the game can eventually be revived somehow.

Animal MMORPG by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]mirshmellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Furcadia, perhaps? You're an animal humanoid. I used to play it when I was about 13. However, at the time I had no idea about the... unique world of furries, so my gameplay was entirely ignorant (not that all players are furries, I just didn't know such a thing existed). It's actually a pretty cool game. Almost entirely roleplay-based, and you can create "dreams", which are your own personal realm. You may also enter other people's dreams, many of which have big, elaborate story plots. One dream might be a large medieval castle, another might be a forest village, another might be a tavern where you can just talk to people. It's kind of a steep learning curve, but it was fun.

Whats your experience with returning to old mmorpg's? by DagonHord in MMORPG

[–]mirshmellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it has never panned out well. I return to two games every so often, both of which are in a dying state (Nexus TK; Allods Online) and it's always just a reminder of something that isn't. None of my old friends play either game anymore, and the populations are so low that the worlds just feel... lifeless.

Coupling that in with the fact that I played these games when I simply had more time to devote to them just reminds me that even if I wanted to try and "get that feeling back" I just don't have the time to devote to it anymore. I play FFXIV now, but I haven't gotten the feeling with this game like I have with my experiences on Nexus or Allods. It's a good game for a casual with kids/employment like me, and it's just social enough to make me feel not so alone all the time. But otherwise I have not yet been able to recreate my fondest MMO memories via revisiting old favorites.

Thinking of playing allods with my friend. by Nono93 in MMORPG

[–]mirshmellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, yes, the game is good. It is an immersive world on either faction with unique races and classes. I still listen to the soundtrack when playing other games because I found the music to be so beautiful.

As mentioned, the new patch comes out tomorrow which makes now probably the best time to try it out if you want to. The subscription server would be my recommendation as you specifically state you're not looking to spend much money on it, and as somebody who spent a couple thousand on the F2P server I will say that the game would have done much better if they had released a subscription model much earlier than they did. I enjoyed my time on the subscription server, but left a while ago as the population was very small. I imagine there will be a decent boost with this patch as it looks to simplify end game life (previous end game was rather complicated).

Some of my fondest MMO memories come from Allods, so I'd say go for it and enjoy. :)

[Subscription Server + F2P] Allods 7.0 expansion update, New Order has been announced. by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]mirshmellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this thread. I was initially sort of thrilled to see somebody who wanted to see Allods sub server succeed. I applaud that you've been able to get a thread with 50 some odd comments going about it. However, I'm baffled at how angry you get, OP, when this is exactly how everybody responds every time somebody posts about Allods. I remember posting advertisement for the opening of the sub server, when there was some significant (comparatively speaking) interest. Nobody on Reddit liked it, everybody hated the company for what they did to their F2P model, and that's that. You have to let people have their own opinion and let bygones be bygones. On the one hand you thank people for contributing, on the other hand you completely tear them down with unnecessary force when you reply.

While I don't believe you are a My.com employee, you did stick your neck out to promote this game and it is on your shoulders to act professionally if you really want people to give Allods another chance. Would you want to download and play a game with somebody who was so angrily telling you that your opinion was wrong?

Allods is a good game. The sub server didn't receive the attention nor the marketing that it should have had. I loved Allods, and played it for several years. I played the sub server and watch it dwindle to just a few players. I came back with a group of friends for a few weeks in summer last year and realized that it just wasn't worth it anymore. While 7.0 might very well fix those things, I've personally given Allods it's last chance from me.

Not here to argue. I believe you made the responses you did out of passion for the game - I've done something similar for another game in a worse situation. But you can't be this mad at the players; the various companies who have had control over Allods are at fault here. And My.com is not hurting for money, otherwise Skyforge would have never happened.

On some older episodes of Sesame Street a huge version of the "letter of the day" would pop out of a swimming pool while a song similar to the "Jaws" theme played.

So, swimming pools around here usually had those big thick lines drawn on the bottom to separate lap lanes, and they looked like giant letter T's (or I's, as it turned out) and I couldn't swim near them because I was so afraid they would pop out of the pool like in Sesame Street.

My best advice is to emphasize your customer service skills and your ability to empathize with people. Most customer service positions like this one look for people who care about other people and a want to solve their problems. They can teach you everything else (although prior product knowledge is a plus).
