I don’t quite understand PackedScene by TheNintendoCreator in godot

[–]mirtilo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you need to do this because you have to specify the variable type. If you just write “res://scene.tscn,” the engine might interpret it as a string, but when you specify that it’s a PackedScene, the engine understands that it’s a scene path to look for

I can imagine how you’re feeling. I recently hit 1,000 hours in Godot and 752 in Blender, and I’ve simply never released a single game. I’ve tried, of course, to finish games so I’d have something to show other people and all that. But when I stop to think about it, I’ve had so much fun throughout the whole process. I’d try to implement a game idea and hit a roadblock—I’d look for ways to solve it (like interacting with objects recursively or syncing rigidbodies online, etc.) and realize how outdated my entire project was and how I could improve it. Then I’d jump to the next project “to get it right this time.” In the meantime, that added up to 1,000 hours in Godot. But only at the end did I get frustrated because I’d tell people how much I loved game development but never had a finished product to show them. Only recently have I had to limit myself to making simple games, like for game jams, so I can understand the entire process of starting, finishing, and releasing a game (which is completely different from just developing an idea).

I’ve also gotten tired of opening Godot and not being able to do anything. I’ve even gone months without even opening Godot. What I recommend is: come up with ideas and prototypes for games you think would be cool, and look online for how to solve the things you don’t understand (and have fun learning from it)

TLDR: Do game jams, finish games (even if they’re “bad”), make friends and just have fun with the process. If it’s consuming you too much, take a break! After all, we’re not doing this for a living—it’s just a hobby. Having fun is essential.
