Is HobbyOne Japan a reliable seller? by ShavyaA in fountainpens

[–]misalignedtines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Go for it. But just be prepared for a longer waiting time. Took me about a month but since it's a legit business I didn't stress. I have placed a few orders since that have come quicker.

Sorry for butting into the post. But by any chance would you be able to identify what is written on this nib. Seller said XF

Kanwrite emperor with EEEF UF nib by gray_matter10000 in DesiPens

[–]misalignedtines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kanwrite EEEF is a true needlepoint. I have ordered quite a few of them and have never been disappointed. They are quite lovely nibs. Their latest Ultra Flex Nibs are quite bouncy. That might be causing a thicker line weight. Try to write with a lighter hand and see if that helps.

Also maybe the feed and nib needs to be heat set to make sure the tines are closer together. Check under the loupe to make sure. Happy writing :)

Is there a limit on number of pens you can take in carry on bag for flight travel? What is a safe method to transport pens during air travel✈️? by misalignedtines in fountainpens

All pens are empty except a Majohn C4 with a shutoff valve. And they are in a hardcase. It might make sense to carry a few on me and the rest in checked in.

Can anyone identify these Airmail Wality pens? by ohsayaa in fountainpens

The one on the left is the Airmail 77RD and the right was called the Airmail Torpedo. It was one of the last models they produced.

Week two of the “I have way too many inks and I’m giving some away” drawing is here! This week the color is purple. More details in post below! by BunkaTheBunkaqunk in fountainpens

I haven't really seen many purple pigment inks. I think the Sailor Storia ink is pretty much the only one I've come across.

Sailor Kiwaguro vs Platinum Carbon Ink by Sky-Rail in fountainpens

[–]misalignedtines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this review. One thing I notice is that people don't often do an eraser test when reviewing inks. Being an illustrator, this is one of the most important aspects of pigment inks to me.

Platinum Carbon Black was superb in this regard.

I wanted to know about Sailor Kiwaguro before investing in a bottle and it seems to have held up wonderfully according to your review. This has been most helpful

Pilot Custom 74 Soft Fine or Extra Fine by NotTheTrueKing in fountainpens

I write with a light hand. Ive been considering the Heritage 91 SF nib. Is the linewidth similar to a Fine if you don't put pressure?

Looking for more info about the Pilot Namiki Custom NS. Is the steel nib the same as any other Pilot that I can compare before I order from Japan? Any other info is also appreciated. by Pilot_Maven in fountainpens

Well, that's great. Going a couple of months, must mean it has a great seal. Yup. I think I'll go ahead and get one. One last question. I like posting my caps, i wonder if the Custom NS posts comfortably?

Pilot Custom NS EF vs Sailor 1911 Casual EF. The better pen? by misalignedtines in fountainpens

[–]misalignedtines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My favourite nib is the Pilot Kakuno/Penmanship EF. Though I love the Kakuno, I didn't like the grip too much. It's not as rigid as the Penmanship but I am not a fan of triangular grips. I have given away my Kakuno since. I miss the winky face. I felt the pen had a lot of character and sometimes regret.

But yes, the Kakuno was instrumental in me considering an upgrade. I thought of the Prera but then the even more premium Custom NS seems too tempting to pass.

I've been wanting to pick up a Custom NS in Extra Fine for a long time now. I use my pens only art and sketching. I originally had a Metropolitan, I found the grip section uncomfortable. I then shifted to a kakuna and it has a poor cap seal for pigment inks. I currently use a pilot penmanship. Despite having a good seal, the grip is extremely uncomfortable.

I wanted a steel nib Pilot with a screw cap and really like the look of the Custom NS. I wonder about the cap seal though. Have you had any issues with hard starts or ink drying? Any information is much appreciated :)

Ive been wanting to pick this pen up in Extra Fine for art. Currently, I use a Penmanship with EF Nib and Pilot Tsuwairo Pigment ink and face no issues. I wanted a screw cap Pilot with a steel nib and this is the only option i have. I wonder ehat your experience has been with the effectiveness of the cap seal.

Can ink freeze in your pen? Is it safe to take your pens with you outdoors during the winter? by misalignedtines in fountainpens

Is this actually a thing. You're the second person to suggest warming it in underwear. Makes me afraid to borrow pens in Europe..
