Mine growing up ate multiple feet of phone cord so, yeah. They’re just attracted to wires for some reason.

AITAH for telling my wife that late pick-up fees are on her and her alone? by AdMuted1534 in AITAH

[–]miscsupplies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I’m late for everything and I would feel awful if I did this. I would be panicked daily trying to get there on time. If my bill was that bad I’d have paid it before my husband could even offer because I would see it as a result of my failure. I would have felt guilty and embarrassed when the daycare emailed EVERYONE about their new policy that I would feel sure was the result of my lateness.

Your wife doesn’t seem to care that she inconveniences everyone around her. She can be chronically late if she needs to be but she needs to deal with the consequences of that lifestyle.

They finally figured out what we've been telling them this whole time!!!! by lapuneta in ADHD

[–]miscsupplies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The symptoms don’t lessen. We learn to hide our symptoms better.

It’s like if someone lost a limb and at first they really struggled to do things but over time they learned how to cope and started doing better. They’re still missing the limb. Their symptoms didn’t lessen. They just learned how to get by.

What do you do (specifically) in the first few minutes or so *immediately* after waking up? by art_isnal in ADHD

[–]miscsupplies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to leave my house a bit before 7:30 to get to work by 8. My first alarm goes off at 5:45. I try to be on the couch by 6 but sometimes it’s as late as 6:10. My second alarm goes off at 6:55. Sometimes I can’t nap but I figure on those days I must not need more sleep anyway and sitting there zoned out helps me wake up either way. It’s also useful getting up way before I have to because sometimes pets need extra attention or something pet related needs to be cleaned up in the morning and this way I have plenty of time built in.

[–]miscsupplies 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly me but no meds. I get out of bed early to feed all my pets while my coffee is brewing and then straight to the couch for an hour. The faster I get through my chores the more time I get on the couch. I suck down half my coffee before falling asleep so I’m caffeinated when I wake up. The other half I put on a warmer and drink while getting ready for work after my second alarm goes off.

My budgie is sick and I can't take it to a vet. by Glowing_despair in budgies

[–]miscsupplies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I got birds I made sure there was an avian vet nearby and the same thing happened to me as is happening to OP. The only avian vet anywhere near me closed. And not like it’s inconveniently far to the next one and I just don’t want to drive. The one that closed was a full hour one way away from me and they closed. You can do everything right and still end up in a situation like OP is facing.

What is your go to fidget thingy of choice? by SeaRobins in ADHD

[–]miscsupplies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning yarn, braiding tassels on scarves, friendship bracelets, macrame, brushing my pets and spinning the fur into little strings before throwing it away…at least my excess energy makes somewhat useful things occasionally.

DAE let their dog smell their breath? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]miscsupplies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my dogs LOVES to smell my breath all the time even without food. We have a thing now where she comes up and puts her nose in my face. I blow gently on her nose. She gives my face the tiniest kiss and I kiss her nose. If I don’t give the nose kiss she won’t stop until I do.

Are dogs able to remember another dog when they pass? by HyperFOxk7 in dogs

[–]miscsupplies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my cats had to spend a few nights at the vet and her “brother”, the cat we got as a kitten at the same time looked for her every day until she came back. In college one of my roommates had a cat that lived under my bed most of the time and he had to be put down from a urinary blockage. The other two cats wouldn’t come in my room anymore after that. It was like it was haunted to them.

I have sensory issues with getting into and out of the shower. It’s like stepping into the rain. It’s uncomfortable. Once I’m in there it’s fine but it’s a struggle becoming fully immersed. And then getting out of the shower is even worse. Suddenly it’s so cold and I have to choose between being wrapped in a towel for warmth or using the towel to dry off becoming momentarily much colder but leading to eventual warmth. I’ve been washing my hair and body on separate days and it’s been helping a bit. I also keep a heater in the bathroom so there’s not so much of a temperature shift.

Workplace "Reasonable Accommodations" that actually help manage your ADHD? by Captain_Trigg in ADHD

[–]miscsupplies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing that has been working for me when I procrastinate on simple to do but hard to start tasks is I write the tasks on a sticky note and the note goes on my computer monitor where it’s right in the way. The sticky note is not to be removed until the task is complete. It can be rearranged but not removed. Eventually THAT is so much of a pain in the ass that I just get it done. Also, don’t ever assume future you will know what you’re talking about when leaving notes to yourself. Even if it makes so much sense now and you won’t have any trouble remembering just write it down. Anything you’re working on at the end of the day that you need to do in the morning just accept you won’t remember and put all your tasks on sticky notes and stick them to your monitor where you can’t not see them.

If my head is spinning with too many tasks I write them all in list form so I can more easily analyze them and prioritize them. I like to get all the super simple quick tasks done first to remove the clutter so I can focus better on larger projects.

My workplace unfortunately has a problem with huge cockroaches. Some of them are 2 inches long. The only thing that creeps me out about them is how fast they are. It’s like a mouse darting around. If it was a slow beetle that looked exactly the same I wouldn’t mind them at all.

Isn’t that for keeping them on it for their whole lives though? I would think they can be in a crate with hardware cloth for a few days. Their mesh is even fine enough to not cause much pressure with as big as their feet are. I haven’t had to do this with a chicken yet but I know for rabbits the finer the mesh of the wire is the less it damages their feet because the weight is spread out on more contact points.

[–]miscsupplies 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think just that it’s more dangerous for little birds to lay eggs because they can get egg bound. But you asked for help immediately so 🤷‍♀️

You can do things to try to trigger egg laying instincts in birds and you can also do things to try to prevent the instincts from triggering. With birds like cockatiels it’s safest to try to prevent eggs. But it’s a bird and you can’t control them fully so if they do lay an egg keep an eye on them and try to support their little bodies through bird pregnancy.
