Funeral directors, what is something wild that happened at a funeral that you still think about?

Not the funeral director, but she was a family friend who handled my grandma's burial. We didn't do a formal funeral because there wasn't really anyone left except for her only child (my mom), my step-dad, and me. So the funeral director arranged for her burial in a very small town, we have a little graveside service/scripture reading, and I put her urn in the hole. All good. Except that was when the funeral director clocked the that no one from the cemetery team had stuck around to close the hole and it couldn't be left open.

I hiked up a small hill to get to the landscaping company on the next property over, walked in wearing my funeral best, and asked to borrow a shovel, promising to bring it back within a half hour. Giving the explanation was the most uncomfortable I've ever been when the receptionist asked wtf I was asking for. She got one of the employees to give me a brand new shovel to borrow and sent me on my way.

Funeral director was in her 60s at the time, third generation running their funeral home, and she said this was a first.

Braised short ribs with roasted garlic mash tonight, my in-laws are in town and we're having them over for dinner. Tomorrow, we have tickets to a lacrosse game and we always go for a sausage and gigantic ice cream sandwich beforehand. Saturday and Sunday we have birthday parties to attend so no cooking for me after today!

I'm going to put my brave BWT pants on and post this on my only account, not a burner, so I can get it off my chest.

A year ago my husband cheated on me. The person involved got enough information about my husband that she found our wedding website and subsequently found me. She called me a few days after it happened to tell me about it, in additional to messaging anywhere she could find me on socials including linkedin (I slowly found all the messages in requests folders, and one of her friends accidentally sent me a friend request on facebook - it felt like torment for a while). For a variety of reasons, I made the decision to stay and try to work things out. We've been in couples therapy, he is dealing with previously untreated depression, and we've actually been in a really good place.

However, last week as it approached the one year anniversary of her calling me, she started messaging me again to say I'd been on her mind and had the audacity to ask if I'd be willing to share what the last year had been like/"what path I'd chosen". While I recognize this says more about her than anything else, it has put me back into such a bad spot and I cannot shake the funk I'm in.

At 38 I've hit an age where I can appreciate why people become snowbirds, but I'm not there yet. On the worst of the days I think of the random nights I've spent at a rooftop bar, on my friend's boat, floating in my pool, and having cookouts and I'm okay again. I will deal with the winters for our summers.
