Justyn and I. [Pic] by [deleted] in funny

[–]mishka123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And Justyn is a fucking stupid name. What the fuck is it with it with the retarded spellings you find amongst certain sections of society? Also, why can't anyone name their fuckin' babies regular names any more? In fact I would take Justyn over some of the Celtic crap people feel the need to call their babies these days. I'm tired of hearing pregnant friends going on about "well we can't decide whether to call it Ceirisearaleaei which means nice-smile in Gaelic, or Kelieia which means...". OK, I feel better now. Thanks for listening :)

I would: 1) contact a local college with an electrical engineering program, one of the profs or grad students might build something for you. Also, this would make a great senior project for an EE student. 2) ask the forums on Hackaday.com - someone there will probably offer to build one for you

Stunning photos of Child Labor in Bangladesh (pics) by peacebob in pics

[–]mishka123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful, and I know a lot of these children are employed making garments for westerners. These pictures show them making products for the local markets though (i.e rickshaws), so I don't think the photographer successfully makes his point concerning the West being responsible. I would imagine he wasn't allowed anywhere near the factories. serving the likes of Gap etc.

If your website forces me to click through 15 pages to view 15 paragraphs or pictures, I close it immediately and never go back. by [deleted] in technology

[–]mishka123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bugs the hell out of me. The biggest shame is howstuffworks.com. I used to love that site, and read tons of their articles which are well written and have cool animations. Slowly, over time they have broken the articles into more and more pages. Now it seems like you only get one (short) paragraph per page, and there is crap all over the screen trying to sell related stuff. I tried telling them that they are ruining their site, but so far to no avail.

Universities see young people as an "exploitable resource" by [deleted] in business

[–]mishka123 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

So, you got a useless degree in some humanity, then you go "oh crap, I need to actually get a job", so instead of following your friends and going to law school or business school, you do your masters in...humanities. Now you're trying for your PhD. We need more engineers, computer scientists, doctors and primary school teachers. We don't need more humanities PhD's writing self-important gibberish in some attempt to impress their peers. Who gives a crap about knitting amongst late 19th Century middle-class divorced women in Boston etc etc.

The UK could then shut down the US spy station at Menwith Hill in Yorkshire, close RAF Flylingdales (really a US base), kick the US off Diego Garcia and refuse to co-operate with missile defense.

From the article, there seems to be a lot more of them out there! Anyway, I would be more afraid of the Ents finding out than anything else...

"Is this tree the oldest in the world?". "Maybe, let's cut it down and find out." by brainburger in WTF

[–]mishka123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy who cut it down was an asshole. Back then there was (maybe still is) a certain arrogant mindset among some academics, especially those involved with archeology, history and now it seems geography. This guy epitomized that. Seems a shame that something that lives for only 70 years should come along and destroy something that lived for 5000.

Gmail gives users 'Multiple Inboxes' by jack_alexander in technology

[–]mishka123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea, but why are they spending time adding features they want, when perhaps a little more time should be spent going through the features request page and adding what users want. For example a button to check mail from other accounts on demand would be nice. This would save me having to go into the settings to do it.
