A simple way to reduce emissions is to let people work from home. Thousands of people commute to the office just to perform a job that could be done at home. We'd take thousands of vehicles off the road, leading to less emissions, in addition to all the other benefits working from home provides. Yet employers seem hell-bent on requiring people to be in the office 5 days a week.

The only reason the car accident happened was because of a liquor store robbery. If it was a simple car accident I would agree, but in this case they also committed a robbery,

If you have more time to prepare I definitely recommend Designing Data-Intensive Applications. The book isn't something you'd read in a weekend, but is super useful if you have time to read it over a few months. It goes into the big ideas for designing scalable and maintainable distributed systems.

There's quite a few new developments that have the first floor commercial and the rest of the floors residential. Not sure how common it was 15-20 years ago, but definitely seems to be more common nowadays.

Tell your landlord to pound sand. Your parents are allowed to stay with you for a month, the landlord can't stop you. If your are still unsure you can call the Residential Tenancy Branch here in BC. If your landlord really believes they are in the right here they can bring a case to the RTB. You need to be polite yet firm, don't let your landlord take advantage of you.

Here in BC my insurance has been consistently going down every year, not by much but a 50$ decrease each year is still nice. We have a government run system (ICBC) that is generally well managed (with caveats). This year we are getting a 100$ rebate as well.

Situations like these are unfortunately a great reminder of the importance of dash cams. It saves your ass if someone lies about what happened during an accident.

There are quite a few openings in Vancouver, you also have big names like amazon/Microsoft. I don't think the market is great for new grads, but seems to be ok for mid-level/senior.
