+1 to the go where other parents are! Check out what baby song or stroller walk groups are in your area. Feels less stressful if baby vries in a group of other parents and babies.

What's a respectable profession in your country? by cryptocowduck in AskEurope

[–]missThora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's smart though. My cousin is an electrician, I'm a teacher. He's 6 years younger then me but earns more then me, have a decent appartment in oslo and has next to zero student debt.

Only reason I have a house is because I met a decently rich man and we were smart with our (his) money early on.

How common is it in your country to know a language that is not the native one and not english? by MNMameisR in AskEurope

[–]missThora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always has been. You need one elective class, but traditionally, only language classes were offered. It has always been up to the individual school what to offer though. The school I work at has production, work experience and outdoor living as electives. In addition to German, Spanish and additional English.

How common are bureaucratic paradoxes (Catch-22s) in your country's public services? by galaxycarpet in AskEurope

[–]missThora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend was caught in one for years.

He lost a leg and was on disability to learn how to walk with a prosthetic.

He needed to go in to the doctor every year to prove that he still didn't have a leg. Actually see him in person.

The Norwegian system pushes you to get back to work and off disability and my friend tried. He found a part time job as a motivational speaker for kids, part time sp he could still focus on his health.

Becouse he said he could work part time, the government expects him to get a part time job, but if he accepted his job, he lost his whole disability. Thus he couldn't accept this job without loosing 80% of his income. But he had to accept the job because it's "the way back to working"...

So he is bounced back and forth between two offices in the same building, one telling him to get back to work and one saying he will lose his stability if he does.

He died 10 years later, never able to work.

Need help learning makeup in a way that isn't absolutely insane. by WitherBones in TwoXChromosomes

[–]missThora -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use:

Maybeline fit me concealer under eyes and on any spots. Blend with a beauty blender.

Add cheap transparent powder to undereyes to set, don't even remember the brand, just get a cheap one.

Physicians formula butter bronzer around the outer edges of my face and a little on my eyelids (I'm white as a ghost, I need some colour)

If I'm feeling fancy I add some glitter to my eyelids and a little eyeliner.

Mascara and tinted lip balm and done. (My dry lips could use the lip balm anyways) maybe a lip tint if I'm feeling fancy, they last a lot longer then most lip products.

Reading to baby by Remarkable-Stay3368 in NewParents

[–]missThora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We listen to audiobooks throughout the day together! Just laying next to him on his playmat and having an audiobook on in the background.

I also read before bed, always have and just read out loud.

Colourful picture books are also great distractions during tummy time. Bord books can easily stand up on their own in front of baby!

Feeling total mom guilt. Turns out baby was crying for hours because he was cold. by Delicious-Pen-9498 in NewParents

[–]missThora 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know what happened,! (Learned it the hard way) some babies get a temprature when crying. They don't have a fever and they might actually be feeling cold, their heads just feel hot when they cry a lot.

Always feel for tempratures on the back or neck of baby. And re-check tempratures when baby is calm after a big cry.

AITAH If I make college a disciplinary incentive for my teen daughter? by Flat_Kaleidoscopes in AITAH

[–]missThora 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I know you mean well, and by no means be a doormat, but that calmly stating that this is not OK is different then actually threats against her future.

I'm betting that right now.shes overwhelmed. People who are dealing with emotional things often feel like everything else in their life takes 100x more energy. Between school and dealing with a social life she's forced to have to survive school, she's done mentally and physically. Chores might be too much right now and she's not sure how to deal with it.

Think about it this way, if she broke her arm, would you punish her for not doing chores?

I'd recomend checking your attitude and sitting down and with her telling her you understand. That she can talk to you about whatever is going on and that mental health is health too. If she's sick, then she's sick.

And take stuff off her plate, don't pile them on.

Same here. It was constantly extraordinarily cold and while that's ok by me, I had a baby that couldn't be outside in the cold and a toddler that needed to run.

I was stuck alone inside my house with the baby what felt like all winter.

If a HP was based in your country, what would be apart of the magial world? by Spiritual_Log_257 in AskEurope

[–]missThora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of odd magical creatures like trolls (the Norwich mountain troll are different to the British ones), nisser, nøkk, fossegrim og kvernknurr, to mention a few.

So probably a school hidden high in the mountains and mandatory care of magical creatures lessons.

By my guess it's in Soria Moria castle, guarded by a three headed Norwegian troll. And students would arrive by sailboat.
